Apparently they\'re screwing with GI JOE aswell and making him into some kind of European anti-terror agent.

I thought it was supposed to be more of a Generic World Wide UN type body now, cause the Monkee Gods know we cant do a movie with an American military base anymore - we might offend.

I\'m personally waiting for the live action big screen romp of the Sid and Marty Croft Players - HR Puffenstuff in all his glory on the big screen, or the Land of the lost, or best yet, Sigmond and the Sea Monsters.lol

Robotech was an animae series that was brought to the states in the mid 80\'s - it involved many large stompy Mechs doing what mechs do best - stomping stuff. The series spun off 3 or 4 movies (including one that basically summed up the first couple/three seasons of the show) -

If they do one of the movies, especially the first one I can see it working.

I got my anime re-introduction from Robotech (after cutting my teeth years before on Kimba and Speed Racer.) I\'m actually interested to see what they can make of it... after all, what does the story consist of? Alien shooting and a love triangle. I think that has been managed in 120 minutes more than once.

As for the actual making of the movie, I\'ll believe it when I see it. There have been so many anime-to-Hollywood near misses in the past, from Lucas doing Aura Battler Dunbine to Cameron doing Gunnm/Alita that I can\'t get myself interested until I start seeing the merchandising at Toys\'R\'us. And, oh yes, there will be merchandising.

I\'ll be able to sympathize when they make a live action Spong Bob Square Pants.

Anyway why can\'t they make a cool movie like Cowboy Bebop movie
:D

@ That would be cool

Marshall, Will, and Holly
On a routine expedition
Met the greatest earthquake ever known.
High on the rapids
It struck their tiny raft.
And plunged them down a thousand feet below.

To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost.

Scary part is I did that from memory. I might be a little off.

I want a Dr.Shrinker live action.
Dr.Shrinker
or
Electro Woman and Dyno Girl

I know what you mean. Hollywood will not be happy until they rape and plunder everything old. It makes it easier than thinking up a new story.

I\'ve just seen on the crawl on E tv that
Tobey Maguire has signed on for a live big screen version of \"Robotech\". No dates on shooting or anything like that. By all the dark gods of Hollywood! How can they do a what 27 hour story in 2 and half three hours without messing it all to hell? What parts are they going to keep and which are they going to toss? Are the Zentrati going to be 50ft \"monsters\"? Or are they going with a \"Ming the Mild\" (see the Flash Gordon thread) route? And for that matter, did they ever get the licensing for the Mecha figgered out? Or is the the Veritechs going to look completely different? I\'m thinking that I\'m going to give this a 3 of 10 that not completely destroying the whole concept.

I just hope that I\'m wrong. Ever the optimist

@Undave Well, it would be funny to have Pootle using expletives but not by Roy Chubby Brown. Pootle was my favourite.

For those of you who don\'t know what we\'re talking about, here\'s the program\'s intro:

Smuggling, whoring, and drinking does he!

Just read the piece on Tron II - did anyone notice the aside that they are also redoing \"Logan\'s Run\"?

Bloody hell.

I too cringed in horror when I saw this news about Robotech. This is one of my favorites. Not so much that Hollywood would ruin it, but Toby Maquire? If this does go through hope he sticks with producing it and not acting in it. What other roll would he want but Rick Hunter? And Toby is no Rick.

The though of seeing Veritech fighters, Invid, Zentradi and the SDF-1 in \"real life\" would be very, very cool. Just the first 15 min. of the US pilot show would make for some great cinema. The crash landing, the \"looting\" of the technology and the ship coming to life while they\'re testing the first anti-grav motors.....Giant laser beam into space scene! About the only thing better would be to actually see the Yamato fire the Wave Motion Gun! Cool, but we all know they\'ll ruin it, or at least underwhelm it as they did the Transformers.

Oh well, thank god the Akira property hasn\'t actually been done yet.

Steelcult and Zora - You two sound around my age (late 30s) as everything else you mentioned brings me back - Jabberjaw - SPEED BUGGY! Sigmond and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost..... How about Deputy Dog? They did Wonderdog right?

There\'s a lot to pillage there.
