Ainariel, Arrow of Light

Hi all, I hope you are well. My next project is Ainariel. I am going to build her a diorama with pond and waterfall features. Now, I have just sculpted a rocky outcrop using DAS clay which will form the basis of the waterfall. This was my first attempt at sculpting, and I am quite pleased with how the rocks came out - even though this is very basic stuff! I have also outlined where the pond will be. She will be placed in the centre (or is it center - I always confuse the two!) of the pond.

I know this project is in a very early stage, but all comments are welcomed! This is a project that will probably take a while !

Just a small update. I decided to increment the size of the pebble foundation for the waterfall. I used actual pebbles from my garden for this (something I coul have done in the first place instead of sculpting lol).

Thanks for the reply there Thomgirl, progress is slow I am afraid. I shall have an update tomorrow I hope. It really is a great model!

Hi there, just a quick update. I have cleaned the model and sprayed it with a very thin coat of skull white. I have to confess, I am quite intimidated by this figure. It is such a lovely model and I really don\'t want to spoil it lol. Here is a progress report for the diorama:

P.S. The water looks murky because it is still drying lol. I am in two minds as to how I should build the actual waterfall. I have found a tutorial HERE but I am not sure about it. It looks tricky. I also thought of maybe using some string with PVA dried to it. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I know what you mean about these types of miniatures, I have Andrea\'s not Legolas ;) and its been hiding in the box for nearly two years hehe.

Cheers for the replies, I think I will paint her similar to the one on the CMON shop, with the red robe at least. Red is one of my favourite colours you see! This mini is great, but came with some particularly nasty mould lines that I had to remove. I am going to make an attempt at the waterfall over the weekend, and will keep you posted. One thing, I want the flesh to be really smooth so would you advise me to spray tallarn flesh on to her, followed by a spray of elf flesh - or is it better to apply just very thin coats manually? cheers!

I would imagine that spraying Tallarn Flesh may be a bit difficult since it\'s pigments are a bit thicker than regular paint being a foundation. I have never tried spraying it through an airbrush, but give it a shot. Spray on the base coat then paint thin layers for successive coats. On a large mini like this with so much skin exposed you are right to devote extra care and attention to the skin since it will be what will stand out the most, and depending on how it\'s done it will make orb break the paint job.

GW foundation colors are excellent in an airbrush actually, just dilute them a bit first(duh). GW has a chart with how much they recommend you to dilute them coming with their own spray gun, I\'ll see if I can find it on their site.

Just a very brief update, not progressed much I am afraid, had a lovely weekend of weather so was fixing up the garden lol. Anyway, here is small start on the waterfall. I am not sure about it, not sure if it looks \"right\", so any comments would be most welcome :) I built it using a strip of cling film glued into place followed by some skull white and gloss varnish, let me know what you think, cheers!

Another quick update, I have been working on the waterfall. I am quite pleased with it now, not too bad for a first try lol. Let me know what you all think!

As you said it\'s definitely not bad for a first try. I think what it comes down to is what you end up painting the surroundings. Reason I mention that is because the water right now looks almost too blue. If you can counter that with a complementary color for the surroundings it should do well in balancing it out.

Lol I know, but I am having some doubts about whether the diorama is too small for 54mm scale you see, and also, got some other things in the pipeline ! Plus, having a little bit of trouble with Ainariel herself! Will not forget the project though......

Looks good so far, have you thought of using
Super glue gel for the water Effects, or Epoxy resin? super glue coated with Acrylic gloss Gel makes brillant \'Foaming water Efects, and epoxy \'clear\' looks like Water when set, you can also create some superb ribble effects! with it!
