In college I had some roommates who were stopped for menacing and had their lazer-tag guns confiscated.

I grew up around guns. We hunted alot, an my dad is an avid collector of them. But gun safety is something that was always brought to the fore as well.

I have no real problem with them. I had a gun for a while, and then realized that once my kids were born, it may not be the best idea, so gave it to my dad. He keeps all his guns in a HUGE gun safe.

It is indeed a cultural thing. We don\'t look at them as evil, but rather an extension of our short penises. Thats why we drive those big ass cars too.

I agree Vike, a gun is just a tool. One you hope you never need, but when you need one, you need it RIGHT NOW.

And just for the record, Ted Kennedy has killed more people with his car than I have with my handguns.

Cars have killed more people than anything else I think. At least during peace time. Still, they are considered to confer some general benefit to society so we put up with them. I long for the day of automated cars.

If only you could go mosquito hunting with guns like the old Monty Python sketch! lol

Mosquitoes have killed more people than every human conflict throughout history.

(By transmitting malaria)

I usually just lurk but I thought I would add some input.

A airgun is still a gun. Even a bb at 250 fps can cause significant damage. All fun and games till someone loses and eye.

Now... I agree gun are tools. I don\'t see any problems using any gun in a safe and designated area but I do not think someone backyard is the ideal location unless you have many acres of open space. In my younger years I was an avid gun enthusist but these days I avoid them. Just hate the potential devastation they can cause.

Not all americans are pro guns. There are some countys that are fanatical about guns sure but that condition exisits all over the world.

@ NSA & Provoke me, I agree with the animal crualty deal totally! Iv\'e had 3 rescued old english sheepdogs, and they all came to me in such a sorry state it really hammers it home that some assholes out there care more about themselves and having a nice fluffy \"toy\" for a year or so before they get bored with it and it just becomes a problem!!!
Rant over:D
@ Dan; I reckon a burst of close proximity buckshot is bount to hit at least 1 or 2 where they buzz about in large numbers, failing that, a flamethrower would be most effective methinks!lol

On reflection...i\'m off to hunt mossies!!!!

good quotes....

but what about these...

\"ow! you shot me\" Innocent guy in the convenience store.

lollol

\"gurgle\"...Carjacking victim.

(don\'t get me wrong, I support the right to bare arms, I just thought I\'d add these for a very dark comic effect)

I liked the Jesse Ventura quote:
\"My idea of gun control is being able to put 2 bullets through the same hole at 300 yards.\"

Oh dear, I see this is a losing battle. You really don\'t think that there were factors other than weapon control involved in any (all) of those examples?

Back to the original point: airguns=bad? Yeah they certainly can be.

By coincidence, yesterday here in Melbourne a young woman was shot in the face with an airgun while serving at a McDonalds drive through. Not by a customer, just some idiots hiding in the bushes nearby.

The pallet hit less than 1cm from her eye. Things could have been much worse.

They could have been much better if she had returned fire and nailed the turds.

As to your question about other factors: Certainly; but the Gun control always comes first and is a symptom of the desire of the govt. organism to eliminate any potential threat to its own existence.

Yes, the factors were that the governments listed did not trust their people. They did not trust the people to be ruled and did not trust the people to not overthrow the existing power structure.

I could not believe that Austrailia rolled over and gave up their gun rights like they did.

We dont need guns to solve our problems. We use other methods like satire and reteric. Iv seen my mum drop a 7 foot dood just with a stare.

If you think you are safe just because you have the right to bere arms then you are fooling yourself. If you read the stats more people are killed by guns from people they know than by strangers (Not including war)

Having a gun causes more problems than it will solve. I hope we never become like the states where every one owns a gun. At least with out one you have the chance to settle down before doing something stupid.

\"Why if I had a gun Id kill everyone of you\" Homer J

Not a world I want my kids growing up in.
