Airbrush for beginners

Hi all,
I have finally decided myself to purchase an airbrush for painting my models.
Basic goals are to:

- Apply primer and chipping medium
- Apply streaking grime / filters
- OSL

Since I've never used an airbrush I'm not really sure where to go in terms of models and so on.

I was oriented on the set produced by AK interactve since it seems complete and with an affordable price for what I need to do.

Anyway I'm open to suggestion from more experienced people

In addition, does anyone has a compressor to suggest (the quiter the better)?

Thank you for your time

Stefano

that AB set looks ok. AK-I has good products usually. No personal experience though
I personally use a HnS-Solo with a .3mm needle/nozzle. The larger one is good for large surfaces, the .2 for defails, altough I don't use it as it clogs too easly.

For compresor... I'd suggest to get a decent one, NOT a cheap one. It will last a lot longer. Ohh and make sure you get one with a tank of at least 3-5l. It will help a LOT with noise and motor longevity.
I have a 250euro one from a local shop, where they held AB lessons, bought it in 2010, still functions. I had a cheap one (about 120euro with ABSet) that died after abuot 2 yerars.

What specific features should I look for in an airbrush compressor to ensure it meets my needs for painting models quietly and efficiently?

The AK set is a very solid starting point for those tasks, especially for priming and filters. Regarding the compressor, I'd strongly recommend looking for an AS-186 style model with a built-in air tank. Having a tank means the motor doesn't run constantly while you are spraying, which makes it much quieter and prevents air pulsing.

The suggestion for an AS-186 style compressor with a tank is excellent for quiet operation and consistent airflow. Another feature to consider is an auto-shutoff, which further reduces noise and wear when you're not actively spraying. It's really about finding a balance between quietness, reliability, and flow for your specific painting needs.

The AK set looks like a strong start for the tasks you've outlined. Building on the compressor advice, ensuring your setup has a good moisture trap and remembering to drain it regularly is key for both consistent airflow and the longevity of your equipment. It keeps your air supply clean, which really helps with smooth paint application.
