Airbrushing VMA Metallics

Quick question - roughly what pressure do people use when airbrushing Vallejo Model Air Metallics? Just been trying to spray some Gun Metal and had a right pain as it just didn't seem to want to go through the airbrush very happily. Just wondering if I had the pressure right. I had mixed it with a little Chaos Black and some screenwash so not sure if that was the problem or not.

Had a run with VMA Gold too which seemed to go through a lot more easily...

I found VMA metallics to be really, really fussy about what you mix them with. I tried a whole bunch of different thinners/paints, and I found that if I added anything except vallejo's own thinner they went all gummy and nasty on me. That may be the issue?

Hi,

I've had no trouble with my VMA but I haven't mixed them with anything other than the Liquitex AB medium I use. I generally spray at between 15-20psi for base coats. For details and glazes down around 10psi. I've only used the VMA metals for base coats so far though. I did have some spattering issues once but I think that was due to have the pressure a little low.

Thanks all. I got up fairly early and gave the airbrush a really thorough clean just in case there was any gak built up within it. I think I have some Vallejo Model Thinner lurking around somewhere so will mix up some more and use that and see if that makes any difference. Failing that I'll have to buy a pot of metallic black.
