Airbrushing woes: GW Greens. How do I mix them??

Yeah I think I've learned my lesson for the rest of the army

I did manage to get it to spray in the end. I made a mix of 50/50 snot green/vallejo airbrush thinning medium with a few drops of acrylic retarder. Sadly I ran out of snot green as I discovered the perfect mix >.< but I did manage to get the unit covered. I'll see if I can upload a pic or 2 of the results.

edit: here's the unit after the spray and a watered thraka wash

Now, if you look at the standard sticking up in the middle of the pic, that spattering effect is what I was getting originally (as well as on the front of his base). Is that an indication of a bad mix? too thick?

Those look great - man, does this show the value of airbrushing for quick coverage or what?

Paint too thick, pressure too low, nozzle partially clogged. Or some combo of those.

Just as others said: when airbrushing try to avoid black primmer. This is even more important if you wanted to spray bright colours!!! (yellow, red, bright green...).

I do use citadel with my airbrush (evolution with 0.4 set.) using only water and 2atm pressure (20-30 psi maybe?) and it works. by now I try to avoid foundation paints as they look too thick nd I'm not sure how they will behave...

Not quite on the same topic - but how do you airbrush your models? For rank & file like you're doing I tend to stick each rank onto a baton of wood with double sided tape and go from there. They don't get removed from that until they're actually finished. Quite a few benefits: you don't have to touch the model; you have enough gap to get a paint/air-brush round; you can move the models easily to make sure you get into all the hidden spots; it breaks the unit up into manageable sections (4 batons of 5 rather than 20 induvidual); you can go from undercoat though to varnish without removing them from the baton; less chance of flicking a lone model on the floor with a sleeve or finger

You can airbrush foundation paints, just make sure the paint is the consistency of semi-skimmed milk - I've done a huge number of Space Wolves with Fenris Grey (will try and take a pic over the weekend). I also airbrush with the needle cover removed - which makes just removing the debris from the needle tip every 60 seconds a lot easier with Fenris Grey ;)

Excellent! Exactly what I was looking for. And I think the nozzle was partially clogged. I let it sit in some acrylic thinner for a few hours.

Looks like this army will be a real experiment. The black orcs are almost all armor, so they'll be sprayed mecharite red. And the boys are mostly shirts and pants, so probably a bestial brown spray.

Go to the local department store or drug store. Go to the dental hygiene section.

Find a proxy brush. If your cone is like a Pashee or Vega - won't help if your cone is like an Iwata HP series.
