NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO,NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! Away with any talk of this. It\'s not going to happen.
I have to admit, I got a little excited about a Watchmen film being a possibility when Darren Aranofsky was attached as director. He\'s could have had a good go at it and translated some of the bigger issues the comic explores to the big screen. Even then though, this is a film that shouldn\'t be done.
Even Alan Moore (who is a miserable bastard for sure, but also rather smart) when asked by Terry Gilliam how he should go about making a Watchmen film simply said \"Don\'t!\"
The thing is, Watchmen isn\'t just any superhero comic, it\'s THE superhero comic. To have any chance of doing it justice would require a massive running time, and a completely different director to Zack \"my films lack in substance but look like pretty music videos\" Snyder. The man\'s films are nothing but a glossy sheen over complete nonsense. They may be entertaining in places, but come on, that isn\'t going to cut it with Watchmen, there\'s substance a plenty.
I heard about this version as a possibility a while ago, and there is some sort of script treatment already leaked online. I think it is for this one, although as Supervike says, the terrifying prospect of a Watchmen movie has been around for an age, and repeatedly canned, so I\'m not sure. It was far from impressive anyway. Until I see news of casting I will keep my fingers crossed that this crashes and burns like all of the other versions.
