Alienware m9750 spares?

Hi All,

Bit of a long shot really. Last night I went to use my laptop which has been working perfectly and it didn't boot up. I mean nothing, the screen stays black the HDD flashes for a few seconds and that's it. I did all of the usual stuff (plugged into external screen, removed battery and tried, removed all power for time, reseated components etc - I'm an IT bod so tried everything that came to mind) and got nowhere. Looking on Google this apparently is not an uncommon problem and is an indication that the Motherboard has gone the way of the dodo...

Now the laptop is an Alienware Area-51 m9750 - yup a high-spec 17" alienware before they got bought out by Dell. Has anybody any idea where I can get hold of a replacement motherboard before I attempt to contact Dell? I've a nasty feeling in the back of my head that I'm not going to be able to sort this, but really want to explore every avenue before I accept that I need to sell body parts for a new laptop.

i would just go online and have faith in the gods of google see what turns up, its not hard chopping and changing the parts out as long as you can get the right ones.

Biggest problem is that it's a funky shaped motherboard :s It has "Hannstar J MV-4 94v-0 0716" embossed on it which is clearly the manufacturer & specific variation.

Cheers for the link Cass. I did more research over the weekend and got 3 different numbers for the motherboard but it seems like it's extremely rare. Sadly it's not one of the models that Dell took over when they bought Alienware so they're not able to help.

I suppose that'll teach me to spend a month's salary on a 17" laptop! Ho hum, I've dug out an old Acer C310 laptop I had lurking in the cupboard and bought a psu for it so that I've at least a larger laptop to tide me over until I've a bit more money to buy something else. My only consolation is that I've given my Alienware laptop some serious use over the years, from playing WoW to Hellgate London and various other games.

Sorry it wasnt more help, i bought my son one of the area 51's some time back for his I.T. work (more like bloody online gaming) and it has performed really really well he's upgraded it without any problems at all replacing mother boards, graphic cards and the entire coolining system. I made the big mistake of walking into his room during one of these refits, he and his mates were doing. i dont know if you are familiar with "the big bang theory" well it was like wolowitz's space toilet. i just turned on my heels and walked out thinking im sure there's a more productive way of getting rid of £3500 than that lol...turned out great in the end tho i must admit. theres not an awful lot of pc's it couldnt wip in a stand up fight even now lol.
