Alignment Question

I was playing a game the other day and my opponent charged my flank, but couldn’t fully align to the flank “center”. My interpretation is if the attacker can’t align center they would have to align 50/50 according to the rules but they aligned at like 70% saying they could align wherever they want if they can’t align center. What are the rules? I tried to argue it but was overruled.

You can only align to something other than 100% or 50% if you cannot align to either 100% or 50%.

The attacker was able to align at 50% so the 70% alignment was an illegal move like I thought. Thanks for confirming.
