Hey gang! I put up My first Conforntation mini
http://www.coolminiornot.com/index.php?id=8437
I was hoping to get some feedback on my work. I\'m really pleased with the way he turned out and while I think the Conforntation minis are a bit oversized I love the dramatic pose and sculpting of him. So tell me what you think :)

Confrontation Orc

Very nice! Looks like the green skin could use a bit more depth, though. The equipment looks great, and the stake in the ground is a nice touch!

Thanks for the compliment. I like to be more subtle with my shadows and highlights. Making the mini look great in person, but I don\'t think they photograph as well. I should have gotten a better shot of his belly though as I did a nice tan for his stomache that you can only barely see peeking from behind the stone. The stake was fun to sculpt, it was a challenge to get the fallen tree look to come out so well. :D

And to those that voted 1\'s :moon:

hmmmmmm..........

being honest, not mean at all.
lets do bad 1st

the rock on the base really obscures the mini. maybe placing him on a rock or moving it behind him would be better. it looks like hes casting so he would be cool on a rock. as it is it looks like hes peeing behind a rock and someone caught him. (i kinda like it) for the figure, looks like youve got a base of green with some darker shading but no lighter shading. some highlights with lighter shades of green or yellowish. just to complete the depth to the model. the straps on his shoudlers chest etc, see if you can highlight the outsides and add some slight depth/color to them. on the photograph side the picture seems very bright resulting in some reflections on the model so its harder to judge color. work some more on the depth to the sword handle on his back. a darker base then a little lighter in a bit with some highlights innermost.

the good. your base except the big rock is literally awesome. that piece of wood on the base, perfect! great deal perfectly made. the grass on the base is also top notch perfect. the staff wood is pretty well done, and the chain rings is a great touch. thepouch oon his back looks great. his hair looks pretty good and his teeth mouth look great.

if you look at your rating basically people are voting right down the middle 6\'s and 7\'s. thats good because basically your missing the discerning voters by one point, and alot of people think you are bare 7 material. so by basically improving just a bit more would put in a solid category of 7 since your over halfway there.

id say most importantly some highlights on the orc minus the rock with a less blown out photo would score a 7 pretty easy. the way i judged you is: your above table top (5) with some shading (6), and with complete halfway decent shading your a bare 7. to some and might hit a 7.3. id say for a 8 youd have to master well blended shading, composition on and around base, and have a near perfectly clear photo to boot.

really dig your mini, hope i didnt rant to much, for reference id check out some of the top artists confrontation minis to get a better handle on details of all aspects to the mini.

good luck dood.

Thanks Wightzombie,
Your observation on what he\'s doing behind the rock made me laugh :D As I mentioned in my previous post I prefer to be subutle with my highlight and shading and have no problem with blending ;) Hey I\'m a non-conformist. I think if you look a bit closer at the pic you\'ll notice the straps are highlighted too. I do know my strong suit is my sculpting, just take a look at my =][= sister for proof of that.

I think I might take you up on doing a new rock though and put him on top. That way you can see all the details on his belly better. You will also be able to see he\'s holding a club and not relieving himself, LOL.

As to my score I\'m cool with it. My comment about the ones is based on three consecutive votes that drop him from 6.7 to 6.6, then 6.5 then 6.4. Even if you don\'t like my style of painting I know he\'s not a 1 :p
