Alternatives to VMC Lemon Yellow

Only after airbrushing a bunch of models with Vallejo Model Color Lemon Yellow did I read the label, which says it contains Cadnium. Doh !

Anything similar to Lemon Yellow that's safe to airbrush ?

I have VAC medium yellow and white. I could mix a few rations, spray them and photograph them, if you like.

HOWEVER, the color correction is going to be pretty tricky. I don't how VMC Lemon so I can't directly compare it.

The amount of Cadmium in the paint is unlikely to affect you unless you consume litres of the stuff. I don't think you're at risk, but airbrushing in general, I would say a particle/vapour mask is in order.

that won't help. as the main concern was that it has Cadmium in it.
I looked at all the VMC yellows I have, all have it labelled.

Also from the vallejo site: "In our colors for Models and Miniatures, Cadmium Calcinated Zinc Sulphide and Cadmium Sulphoselenide are present in some of the basic colors and in even lesser percentage in mixtures of the 300 plus shades.". Sooooo there is no real way of avoiding it, especially as it can be the same for other manufacturers, but they just don't label it as such (as it is/was not required).

Sadly for strong yellows you simply need cadmium in it.

Possible solutions:
- yellows from other manufacturers that are made direct to AB like from andrea (mix of basic and light yellow) / scale75 / tamiya (X8 (glossy) or XF3 (matt)) / maybe VGCAir line (it should have a strong yellow (around badmoon yellow) / GW (flash gitz yellow).
But like i wrote: just because it's not labelled as such doesn't mean it doesn't contain any.

- no brushlicking (especially yellows) or drinking colors
- wear a proper mask when airbrushing --> this is the most important imho
- keep overspray to a minimum. --> helps a lot with lingering particles
- a spray-booth helps too (to keep the flying particles to a minimum)
keeping the above 3(4) will keep you pretty safe, especially if you don't AB yellow for like 8-10 hours a day.

Aaand personally I wouldn't really worry about it that much, you get so much worse stuff just by living / visiting a city that it doesn't even compare....
Also the fact that most pigments are tiny particles do more damage to lung and all then the material itself.

But if you really want to change I'd try these:
- GW's flash gits yellow transferred to a dropper and thinned a bit
- look at VGCAir badmoon yellow. if it doesn't have it listed, then this is the best bet for a replacement
- if you are in the eu (easier to get), then "Schminke" lemon yellow (uses the pigment PY74 a synthetic organic compound)

Not sure how close it is, but Vallejo has a model air line (and recently came out with a game air line.) Maybe one of the yellows from either of those will match, or at least come close.
