well, im lucky enough to have had and still do have a mentor, and i can tell you its unbelievably encouraging. however, when someone tells you \"to paint like this\" and you do it once, you havnt mastered it, youve begun a long hard journey. ive only ever heard of 1 person being coached for a mini, he won a slyer with a troll i think. ask questions of the people on here, its not perfect through the internet, but i for one am honoured that someone like siphlid would even bother to reply to a message ive sent him, let alone give me continous help. finding amentor is difficult, but im sure if you go down to your local store youll strike up a chord with some one. however, not to sound negative, as with with practice you can do what you want to, but nothing happens over night. mini painting aint a heart warming sports movie

oh, and ps:WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!:bouncy::flip::bouncy::flip:

Thanks for the constructive criticism guys, I didn\'t mean to be snippish. I half expected someone to have flamed me for getting aggy, or maybe even locking this thread. I love the tutorials that CMON has, and I will continue to seek advice from folks on these forums. And practice. Then practice again. and for a change of pace, practice. Thanks guys!

There are quite a few demon-winning painters in Maine. Todd Swanson is in the Portland area and he\'s won 3 swords now. I think he also mentioned that some of the guys around the local GW store are pretty good. I realize that\'s pretty far away from central Maine, but it\'s the best I can do. :p

Yeah I\'d go along with what everyone here is saying about using the WIP and painting/conversion area\'s of the boards for help. I\'ve been here a little over a year and while I won\'t pretend that I am great shakes, my questions have gone from \"How the hell do I do this?\" to \"How much do I charge the people who want me to paint for them?\". Of course I still got plenty of \"How the hell do I do this?\" questions to ask!

The crowd here is very encouraging and helpful with wips. Also another neat place to ask is to PM people who\'s submissions you like. I\'ve never been rejected or ignored that way at all.

A rescource I highly reccomend is the \"Painting Miniatures\" by JBT. It\'s from Kraken Editions and runs about 30 bucks. I\'ve found it invaluable!

And yeah, if you want to piss off the mods and stuff you\'ve got to really bring your \"A\" game. That little bit of defensiveness won\'t cut it!

Welcome aboard :D

One quick note about a gaming/painting community. If you don\'t have one, then start one! Everything has to start somewhere, even if it\'s just a friend or two sitting in a basement painting minis together for a while, that\'s a lot better than nothing. With a bit of time, patience, and the right attitude it can grow into a big crazy thing which is impossible to control, much like we have here on the Intarweb!
