An interesting paint-job

Hy guys! Long time no see

I mentioned somewhere that I have painted a handful of Mid-Nor dwarves in a strange new way using ink washes over a white undercoat and have now finished 7 of them. I am not going to post them all up here as they are really gaming standard like these two Incubi:

However, the leader Nilarakh the Evildoer has turned out much better (and was the last one i finished). The only things I have painted with paint are the metallics, the canopic dolls and his eyes. The rest is a mix of ink, water, matt medium, flow enhancer and retarder (in a secret formulation passed down aurally from one generation of paint slave to the next).

I\'ve got a mid-Nor cyclops and a couple of characters I want to paint in this technique too... I\'ll give the game a go first though

That is very interesting. Does the technique save you time in painting?

The ink washes seem to give a bit of a splotchy look that works well for skin. I can best see that demonstrated on the stomach area of the first two. Looks organic and sickly.

Do the washes still come out very glossy or does the matte medium take care of it?

nice.

when i have read about this technique (dark sun book) they mention touching up with a couple of highlights.

tried a simular thing on the gandalf model i did in the painting forum.

with a hairdryer (nice tip from tammys site) these methods are realy quick.

The brettonian archers in my gallery were done this way, it can be VERY quick and still look great for the tabletop, but you\'re unlikely to win any demons with it.

Jeremie Bonamant did a nice tute in the first Darkson\'s book.

There\'s also going to be a nice tute on it in the second release, so I hear

I love this technique as it adds a sort of chaotic randomness to certain areas that gives the figures a very realistic look.
I think its perfect for these guys.

I didnt realise there was a tute in the darksons book! I\'ll have to look now... thought i made it up myself :~(

The matte medium makes it completely flat and matte - the bellies of the incubi were heavily glossed with varnish and green ink after the model was finished to represent the ichor that they exude... the technique drastically saved me time painting - I finished 7 minis in 2 weeks! It normally takes me 4 months to get through so many!

clean result on a fast paint... what could be better?

So, i\'m totally intreagued (sp?) by this tech. i haven\'t heard of flow enhancer and retarder. I\'ve tried the wash over white primer approach before but i got really spotty results, just weren\'t smooth tones like the dwarves and Trevor\'s archers. I\'m setting in on an Empire army with A LOT of militia troops ... this techniques sounds like a winner to me.

If you could preach on some technique knowledge about this i would really appreciate it.... thanks for your help!
