No clear definition of their statistical demographics, No definition of how/when the survey was carried out.

For all intent and perpose Dr is right though. Shitty surveying.
Also to be fair if someone asked me if Dick Turpin was a fictional character I\'d say no.
Mainly due to the fact that he certainly did exist.
Fair enough there was a certain amount of embelishment and some of the deeds attributed to him may have been performed by others but the same can be said for many other historical figures, Shakespeare for instance.
Looking at that list there are at least two people on the fiction side who definately existed; Turpin and Godiva. Whilst on the other side we have King Richard I and Cleopatra who have to be amongst the most embelished personages in history.
According to popular accounts Richard is seen to be the all conquering hero who was the paragon of English monarchy when in reality he was thought to have been a gay Frenchman who abandoned his country in favour of the crusades whilst his Brother John, who is played as an inept villain, was in fact thought to be a fair and able ruler who unfortunately had a run of bad luck and wasn\'t too good with taxes.
If you\'re going to ask questions like that at least divide up the categories properly

Possibly... it depends on whether you find stories like this interesting - and what your tolerence is to reading crap. Mine\'s quite low, so I tend to avoid the Mail and all the red tops... There\'s plenty of real news about imo

Yep The daily mail, together with the express, is an even worse rag than the Sun, News of the World or the Mirror, true they\'re all total shite, but at least the latter three don\'t pretend to be serious news papers.

Is’nt the History Jury still out on Arthur and Robin Hood.....strip away the romantic glamour and Arthur seems to have been a tribal leader from roman times and Robin looks to have been a real petty criminal..I love it when people start digging into the past and come up with new information that changes what we previously knew.

Arthur was likely a warlord/chieftain of Prydain/Britain (very different from the British Empire) around 600 AD. He was certainly nothing like the English or French depictions of him as they were romanticised/nationalised versions of older stories.

He must of impressed the people, whether good or bad, to be remembered at all, I believe his was an oral culture and to be passed by word of mouth is some feat.The ones who were the keepers of tradition and history all kept in their minds is damn amazing considering folks of today can’t remember what they had for breakfast.
