Theres also the problem that \"Arthur\" means \"King of all Britons\". So it may have been a title given to a number of people over the years instead of just one man.

As for this survey? Tosh. Its the equivalent of getting all the people in my town and the village across the fields, finding their opinion and then claiming they represent the entire country. And they are people who watch UKTV Gold of course :duh:

Ah, but its funny when we do the same thing with Americans, no?

Edit -

And thats a new meaning for Arthur for me - last time I checked it meant either Bear (French) or Eagle (Anglo Saxon)

Which is why when people talk about their \"Native American\" Names, I tell em I\'m Grey Bear From Czechoslovakia.:D

I guess I can know tell em I\'m Grey King of the Britons from Czechoslovakialol

No.

It\'s worse.

It\'s a bottom-of-the-rung tabloid for right wing, tory-voting cretins dressed up as a \'sensible\' and \'educated\' middle-class news platform. Utter shit. At least The Sun and The Mirror wear their colours proudly....

If there was one thing Arthur almost certainly wasn\'t it\'s a Saxon. Many Arthurian stories have him fighting against the Saxon invaders on the side of the Britons or Romano-British remnant.

A portion of the post-Roman Britons migrated to Armorica (present day Brittany) but France was eventually named after the Franks another contemporary people and he certainly wasn\'t one of them.

The current theory as far as I know is that he was either a Romano-British officer, a British warlord either from the British Britons or the Armorican ones, or more likely an amalgam of several different individuals from all three. Some people may try to tell you he was Welsh but the word Welsh is simply derived from a Saxon word meaning foreigner and was applied to all the British natives.
