Sombody said somthing about france ??? :p
Well I\'m just of out of a week of exams so I missed out all the fun of the Game day. Will have to catch up on the news and gossips  Looks like it was a good year, too bad I couldn\'t be there :(
On the good side though, there is a strong possibility of me beeing there for the open :D

well come one man those are some beautifully painted mini\'s.... i just dont know how i can compete in the future. i wanted to go to gd chicago but apparently alexi z will be there. i love her stuff but i know that i just am not good enough yet. i guess reality kicked me in the butt. its kind of like how everyone has been coming to me for help at the local store for the past 6 months and then you see other ppl\'s stuff you then realize you aint all that.

its humbling. and a good way to keep someone\'s feet and ego on the ground. cheers all

Actually Ive herd nothing about Alexi going to Chicago, maybe another GD in the US but not Chicago.. Now there will be another top European at Chicago, Im just not sure he wants me to tell yet.. if he does Ill post it tomorrow. But just because a painter might be going to a show, should NOT stop you from entering.. with out entering and seeing where you stand you will never get better.

Anyhoo I just got back from Paris a few hours ago and Im exhausted so Ill post more later. I agree with Adrian though that the competition was some of the toughest Ive ever seen. More to follow later when Im awake!

The OPEN competition (as used in MILITARY modelling, world wide) is simple. Its not the first 3 past the post ,1 gold ,1 silver ,1 bronze, but gold for a standard ,silver for a standard etc ,etc.
This is a much fairer and sensible way of judging miniature works of Art,you are not competing against others so much as against your self. It also cuts out an awful lot of negative judging as well.

In the M.M. world the judges are always recognised masters and are in teams of 4-5 so personal preferance doesnt get in the way.I have judged both systems and believe me the Open System is the BEST ! :D lol

Thanks for the information guys - it sounds awesome! Does anyone have a link to somewhere I can buy a ticket? I\'d really like to go, my French is good enough for me to go by myself and it\'d be worth it just to meet some of you guys :)

Cheers

Take it easy, Bill! ;) The event is in October. I don\'t think they have even put up a website for this year\'s event yet.

lol OK I just like to plan these sort of things in advance, as I only get £15 a month and I need to work out when/whether to start saving and stuff.

Cheers

@Bill - You buy your ticket at the door and it was pretty cheap for the whole weekend if I remember right.

Does anyone have exact dates yet for it and GD UK ? Ive herd they are two weeks apart this year instead of one..is this true? Can anyone confirm. If its 2 weeks apart I don\'t think I can afford to go to both.. well unless I manage to make a lot of$$$ this summer.

I haven\'t seen an official announcement yet, but it seems fairly certain that the Salon de Jeu is between Oct 5 and 7.

Last year, it was 10€ for the whole three days as far as you have 3 entries in your display (if I do remember well)...

Yes I bought it from Starplayer when I was there. Wonderful magazine. Jeremie did a great job putting it together again.

One negative thing about the French G.D. which I really hope doesnt happen else where is the reduced the number of catergories.Yes crazy :flame: isnt it.They combined duel and diorama , no large scale and also put together the 40K and Fantasy monster class. We need more
catergories not less :cry::yawn::no:

What was the point of that ???

I have noticed that at a few of the US Demons as well they have a lot less categories than the UK and some even have a lot more staff categories...given the number of entries in the UK though for Diorama and Duel I don\'t think that will be combined anytime soon.

THE FINAL WORD .

Well the G.W. France site has pictures of all the winners posted, they are well worth a look.

Sadly there are many worthy minis you wont see,the standard was so high,,,,,,if only G.W. would embrace the open system of judging and broaden the net when it comes to their photo coverage . That way the punters like me and you who keep their buisiness going might get to see more images of first rate minis ! :D :drunk: :D
