I have thought of this issue many times, but I can\'t come up with a good solution to it. Sometimes I reason like you do that there should be no limitation outside direct threats. Because In general I want people to be able to say whatever they want even if they offend me. But I can still find many situations where the outcome becomes absurd and damaging the society. Just as with followin other principles to the word.

Another discussion, life, liberty and property, where do you come up with those rights? Do you think it\'s \"universal\" or an ideological statement?

@Airhead: It might be so, the \"slippery slope\" problem is a definitive and real problem as well. Security measures taken in a state of war becomes permanented. But thoughout the century we have been gainging and loosing rights all the time, globally anyway. I don\'t agree that it never can come back...

Rights conflict with each other as well. And a theoretical freedom might practically lead to that the greater part of the people gets less freedom.

As for this great statement that gun owners must be made responsible for the safety of their guns... Well, probably. How about we institute mandatory execution of any gun owner whose gun was stolen and used for criminal purpose? No? Oh, yes I forgot, we are supposedly humane democratic society.

If you are willing to recognize their right to return the ass kicking, yes. Part of my disgust with PC is that most PC folks lack the ability to see beyond their rights.

Not what I said.
If I use my gun to rob a convenience store, I should be held to a stricter sentence.

If I shoot an innocent bystander in the commission of a crime, I should be held accountable.

If I leave my pistol out on the bed, cocked & loaded and my 3 year old gets hold of it. Is it her fault?

If someone breaks into my house, manages to find my gun safe, manages to get it open and takes my gun, they are now in possession and have committed a gun crime. I think I have taken reasonable precautions to prevent them from being stolen.

Back on topic: Avelorn asked what I considered a Sheeple in light of saying \"Ho, ho, ho\" and being fired for it because it MIGHT offend some poor whore, or some curmudgeon that cannot stand for anyone else to have fun this season.

I think a country that has allowed its government to become this controlling deserves all the government it gets (that applies to my country as well.)

Maybe not with bloodshed, but definately violent.

Revolutions help remind governments that are \"for the people\", that the people are paying attention.

And taking guns from citizens only means that criminals will be armed and more brazen, since there will be no fear of reprisal.

I\'m sorry, I can never turn this one down. McD\'s KNEW the coffee was hot enough to cause third-degree burns, they had quietly settled several similar suits already. They kept serving it at that insane temperature (like 80\'C) because it made the restaurant smell like coffee, which supposedly made people buy more coffee.

It\'s the \"kept serving it\" part that got them taken to the cleaners in court. They knew it was unsafe and made a decision to keep selling it as such because the profit outweighed the cost of settling the injury lawsuits.

As for the story:

In a case of political correctness seemingly gone mad, John Oakes, 70, says he was told he was not allowed to say \"ho, ho ho\" or sing to children.

When he defied the orders, he was allegedly dismissed.

It sounds like, as well-meaning as he was, he should have just done what he was told. Being a mall Santa is not some sacred trust, you\'re an actor, and if your lines are specifically not \"Ho ho ho\", and you say it anyway, you might expect consequences. I think Santa should say \"Ho ho ho\", but clearly the store does not, which is silly, but within their rights.

I\'ve been a fan of this site for a year or so but this is my first time posting on any forum ever. I\'m a total noob so please forgive the stupid mistakes.
I\'m hesitant to make this subject my first post, but what the hell. I agree so far with Airhead\'s take on guns. And while I have to begrudgingly agree with N.S.A. about the right to fire Santa, I have a slight problem with the Micky D issue. Yes, Mc D. was wrong for keeping the coffee so hot, but when I get coffee, the first thing I do is check it to see how hot it is. If it is too hot I put it down and wait. If I were to burn myself My first thought would be, \"this sucks\", not \"someone must pay for what I did!\" It reminds me of the two neighbors who decided to pick up their lawnmower together to trim the hedge they shared- then they sued because the mower had no label saying they could lose their fingers if they put their hands under the mower! Some things shouldn\'t have to be told to us. Here\'s another fun bit on the Santa front. there is some group I heard that is fielding thin Santas. Apparently, the traditional Santa promotes obesity.
