Andrea Painting Guide

Hey all,

Have any of you seen the following book?

Comment Peindre des Figurines de Fantaisie, by Andrea, found here:http://www.starplayer.fr/cgi-bin/prog/pform.cgi

and here: http://www.store4war.com/public/detailProduit.php?produit=9233&LANG=fr

Just wondering if it\'s worth my time...it would be about $30 to get it from Star Player, so it would be a bit of an investment. I\'d like to be as sure as possible about it before buying it.

Then again, if I order it I\'ll also be able to order some of those incredible Cretes Hurlantes too...

I speak French so that\'s not a problem. :)

Thanks!

Hopefully the mini review I did in that thread will help. As I said, it is expensive, relatively speaking, but Andrea of course are a business just like GW; but GW just can\'t bring themselves to teach anything about higher end painting, it\'s all armies etc. This gives more, and admits you can use other products than just Andreas!

However, if you want more for your £/$/Euro/currency, there is always the Darkson Design book (eh, Ritual? ) :D

@Orb
Yes! :D Indeed! I agree with your comment about it in the Andrea book review that it doesn\'t seem to be that focused, but still it has some good stuff and there\'s a good chance that you\'ll find some useful things in it no matter what level you\'re on.

Hopefully #2 will be out soon. I sent an article to them for it ages ago and haven\'t heard anything since...

Not in the Andrea book... I have work in the Darkson Design book and hopefully in the upcoming #2 of the same.

Thanks for the link, and thanks Orb for the awesome review. At least I know what I\'m getting into if I decide to buy it.

Is there a similar review of the Darkson Design book around anywhere? I found Wren\'s little description of it here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=10211
Anywhere else?

Thanks again

Well this is what I posted, and still adimantly stand by it.

Save your mony.

I paid €27 for this and to tell you the truth, its not good.

It looked nice on the front, but it gives 2-3 line descriptions of each step, and the photos are so small you can hardly see anything. True its all glossy but for the money I feel have been knocked. BTW its all in English. I was expecting that was more than a little stapled book, even the Cry Havocs are proper books, and less money too.

Avoid this one people.

Well it\'s cheaper than an old style Cry Havoc, if you go via Historex, and you probably get as much on painting and technique as you do in a Cry Havoc, if not more. But there is certainly a lot of wasted space.

It\'s just unfortunate that there aren\'t many books on the subject...........

Hey, you could sell your copy to MClimbin!!!

here\'s my opinion and worth every penny.

If you want good eye candy, work on getting the French Ravage magazines, especially 1 ( FRENCH ) AND 2 ( most of the best of the rest of the world ) I don\'t know how they missed you Anders and Zach Lanier, maybe #4 ( 3 is on terrain )

I still think that the Darkson Design book is the best intermediate to advanced book and despite others opinions, I like the Andrea Book, if only for Banshee\'s article and the coolest Space Wolf sculpt ever.

If you really want to learn techniques, then purchase Rune Kappel\'s DVD. NONE of the books explain things like seeing it in action.

As for Cry Havoc, their articles are also some of the best out there. Start with number 9 and see what you think. Also, Brushthralls are the most consistent online tutorial machines.

Just my opinion.
