That's really coming along nicely Andy. The green works really well now and the extra highlights on his face work too. You and 10ball have mentioned the next area to look at ;-)

really nice work sir. the tree bothers me though. I think I would ditch it, it just doesn't fit in my opinion.

Hi guys Ive kinda recovered from salute now and Im getting on with painting the black crow mini. Decided to do red clothes. Dont normaly do them as they tend to look either pastel pink or oragey red rarely proper scarlet or some such proper red colour. I bought some valejo paint on the suggestion of dragonsreach at Salute some ivory and neutral grey and ive got to say Im very impressed with the quality of the paint and the realy useful bottle dropper design much better then the GW pots which I have always bought. Nothing wrong with GW dont get me wrong but its the ease of application and the coverage of the paint which does seem to be better.

Any way heres a couple of pics, Im quite happy with the red still slightly pink but definately closer to true red than my previous efforts.

Any suggestions on getting that final realism on the reds?

If the reds are a nuisance to you try using the Andrea Red Paint set. It makes reds much more fun. Just a thought. I think your a fantastic painter but sometimes easier is faster which is more fun at least to me. Hope this helps.

Nice work Andy, I was wrong about the green it looks great against the skin :)
That live base is awesome! As you say it works real well with the whole look.
I agree with Milosh on the tree, esp on the front view - it clutters the mini. Try a smaller one or remove just to see, easy to put back if it don't work :)
+1 for the skull ;)

I really like the base andy. I think the tree should go but I love the position of the mini on the base and the leaves are nice. Where did you get them from?

cheers

Ok I've removed the tree and it's lots better! The leaves are mainly from "Arcane Scenery and Model Supplies
TREEMENDUS
NaturalLeaves TM4A Model Tree leaves"
they've got an eBay shop. Also I think c'mon does it as well. I think they are from beech trees flowers. I realy like it an extra layer adding a bit more depth.

I'll have a look at getting that red Andrea paint set I must say I'm very impressed with the stuff I've recently got from them.

Ok will photo and put on submissions.

Rackham the crow

Watcha, right had a bash at the green knight and you know what. It was the biggest pile of steaming human excrement Ive ever produced! Too ashamed to even post a pic of it. Chalky paint and every brush stroke a challenge.

Mainly my fault, but its also one of those minis you used to get were every single detail is cast. Bizzarely I find these far more difficult than the newer figures were your left to paint stuff like that free hand! Any one else find that problem?

So any way I'm gonna strip it and come back to it another time.

In despondancy I decided to treat myself and paint a lovely little mini I got as a gift of Squidders (cheers mate:good: ).............the crow!!

Not only that but in conversation with 10 ball he said he also has the crow so were both gonna have a bash at the same time; a parrallel paint job!!

So any way just started; cleaned, pinned, blocked, and primed the mini and given it a coat of codex grey and a wash of badab black to pick out the recesses. Will start to properly paint tonight..........he, he, he proper excited as this is one of my favourite minis!!:)

NMM started

Ok had a bash at doing the NMM.

Started off shiney to get the contrast and placement of shadows and glints highlites etc. Stopped for tonight. Going to smooth out the transitions with filters and washes and going to rust it up tommorow.

Also going to do the 10 ball copper......oh sorry I mean rust effect  on the gorget and peak little roundels etc.

Got a nice vignette worked out underground dungeon with rusty chains and wall brackets skulls and broken weapons etc.

Any way enough fluff heres the progress, over to you 10 ball;)

Looking good mate, NMM suits this mini alot. I see you have gone all arty with the photo background :)

As for the copper / rust - your mini will melt if you try and paint it LOL

Went to a totaly pointless interview today; complete waste of time apart from the fact I got home early from work and got some serious painting time in.
So here we go latest update on the crow smoothed the armour and done the gold.

Any suggestions anyone?
