Really great. Nice backdrop too. Good choice to compliment the colour palette of the mini.

Started a new project. A new one for me a skaven. Trying to glaze a bit of interest not just greys.

done the main armour. Going for a really dented dirty rusty green coulour. Based the rest of the metal with grey. Really like this boy don't know why I haven't done skaven before!

hey mate you are not sitting on the toilet again and paint are you? ;)

scratches painted on to me rarely look authentic to me. although less controllable i think using a spongue or similar make it more believable.
it had been a lot better to see it irl though, its very hard to read the mini atm.

Hmm I think your right on the scratches will paint back over some of them and use a sponge as you suggest. Some I will keep though. Yeah in the toilet .....again!

oh yeah, and the little white lines should only be below the scrathing, to create a little 3D effect. otherwise it can look more like a pattern than scratches...

Using the sponge technique gives great results, if you're using it with a light hand. Less is more, I think. Emphasise the dents and scratches by painting very thin light lines below the marks, like Stefan says. I have used a torn off piece of blister pack foam with success. Dip it in some dark paint, wipe it off so that it's almost dry (pretty much like drybrushing) and dab the piece carefully on the surface you want to "beat up". Try on something else first, so you get a feeling for how much paint should be on the piece of foam and how distinct the dabbing should be.

blister pack or mini storage case foam is great. Also for really fine ones that are of a smaller scale you can use small disposable eye shadow applicators like these:

They come in all kinds of sizes - some are small enough to just dip, dab and sponge other you can rip up and use the pieces to sponge with tweezers.

Yeah, enjoy the weird looks at the make up counter. Last time I had some nail buffing pads, eye shadow applicators, nail polish remover and a mascara brush (great for dusting or cleaning off terrain or minis or removing excess pigments)... I'm pretty sure the folks at Rexall think I am closet drag queen now.

Ok got rid of a lot of the scratches (not all but a fair few and smoothed out the green armour a bit more and used the sponge. Started the metal work. Not the best photos but you get the idea.
