New mini started well I say mini but while it's 30mm scale it's about 25cm tall! Just getting it base coated and the rough highlites shadows and I mean rough has taken me the better part of a week. It's easily going to be the biggest mini I've attempted. Lots and lots of work to go yet on the flesh. It's going to be a duel diorama facing off against an elven hero.

You and Tim with the big red baddies! He's looking nice and muscular (almost as if he is, in fact, just covered in muscles with no skin overtop--I think maybe the texture is giving me that impression). Excited to see what you do with the dio.

Totally f*^%#}d it up fighting the paint work I'm going to strip it and start again. Sometimes you have to admit defeat and restart rather than carry on, regroup and learn from mistakes:(

Right my painting mojo went west for the last couple of weeks ever since I finished brad Pitt er I mean Achilles ;) I tried to force myself to paint the demon but it just wasn't there. So I've gone back to basics to find my roots so to speak and have picked up archaon the ever chosen mounted version. It's 30mm and not a massive sculpt old school GW and lots of good things to paint like metal horseflesh and plenty of fabric with the cloak. Also replaced the shield which I never liked with a sandpapered plastic chaos shield so room for some freehand after watching painting Buddha series 1.2 with derwish (quite good by the way IMHO) I've got the freehand bug biting me.

So here's the start just some simple light placement on the metal glazing a bit oaf smoothing with midtone and glints to go on it. Also split it in two for ease of painting.

There's the mounted mini I've been waiting for!!!! Way to give the people what they want. Anyway, F that demon to the abyss from whence it came. Archaon is the Chosen of Chaos. It took the Champions of all the allied good races to bring him down, and temporarily at that. Such a bad ass.

If gold medalist such as yourself can learn from Painting Buddha, then it must be good. You had to pay for this, yes?

Please Andy, do us all a favor and don't skimp on the WIP pics with explanations, if you can. I learn so much from watching your process. In particular, the part where you start to glaze some color into the metal.

Ill try try to find it, but there are some horse painting tuts out there that really rock. One in particular teaches how to make some amazing texture for the fur. Kathryn Loch also has an exhaustingly informative one here on CMON.

Remember, Archaon is Chaos Undivided. Maybe you could attempt to represent all of the Ruinous powers? A rotten sword. Magical Armor. Beautiful cape and a skull and blood base. Very multi-thematic. G'luck, bro!

Nice start Andy and I just noticed Hasslefree using your armoured ogre pictures on Twitter from putty and paint, they obviously liked your rendition !

Yeah super cool!

Started adding some coloured glazes getting that magical armour effect and I went very strong on the sword kind of a pulsing energy crystal thing going on with hellfire in the demon face no need for subtle with the ever chosen; if he can't have a chaotic demon crystaly pulsating sword then who the heck can eh? ;)
