Wow, I used Dark sea blue as well but never encountered this problem.

agitator balls is your friend! have them in all my vallejo paints.

Right. I do know this, but as it is the ONLY paint I own that needs this, I just haven't gone through the trouble. P3 Bloodstone gives me some grief, but only once it sits on the wet pallet. Heck, even my VGC paints, which are supposedly inferior to VMC, all function perfectly. Anyway, I used to use the Dark sea blue more often, but it's been very infrequent of late. I'll drop a metal sprue in there tho.

It seemed ok but then again it's a new bottle and I gave it a bloody good shake. Any way I'm am sick to the back teeth with red now I've been back and forth on this bloody red cloak more times than I care to count it's too chalky it's too pastel it's not defined enough it's too red now the creases are wrong it's not smooth enough blending blah blah f*cking blah!!! Still got to do the sodding free hand I'm about done with it now though. Getting the grey on the horse wow that's going to be a big job on my get my mojo back relaxing piece.

Cheers mate. Right erm red. This has always been a quandary for me. For years I always brightend red with orange and yellow and darkened with blue or green. However unless you want to go for a flame effect or your osl with torchlight then irl red is never ever actually like this it just doesn't brighten like this. So I carefully looked at red velvet roses etc etc in strong natural light and guess what it goes pink! Annoying and not very manly but that is what happens! Should we really be surprised? I mean white and red make pink so there you go. I will glaze a bit to bring it a bit back down but it's still going to be a bit pink and that's that
Andy maybe you could try mixing Flesh Tones in to soften the highlights without getting too "Hello Kitty" pink.

Now listen up my man, base coat with a blood red, leaving the blood red as your brightest colour wash/glaze in the shadows with dark browns with a tiny bit of purple. If it goes shiny blast it with dull coat.
Pick out little edge highlights with flesh tones as DR suggests.

as as you know I've also had a personal battle with red, it only took a whole 75mm miniature to help my understanding too! To get that back to a nice red all you need to do is to glaze a bright red ink over everything apart from the upper highlights. The secret I found is to paint the colour under the red then glaze the bright tones in over the top.

Mandy, tis true what they say about flesh as a highlight. For me, Bugman's glow tends to work fairly well if you lighten it juuuust a tad. It has a reddish tone to it already. Pale flesh also works of course.

Well that will teach me to play Mr smarty pants. my stupid predictive text turned Zab into San! I'm also now thinking that maybe Archaon the Everchosen was dressed by Edna Mode from the incredibles. "The cape is not red darling it's salmon and it's so you, I love it!"
