Women in the US Army have had to wear the same body armor as men since the use of this kind of protection began. The body armor comes in many varieties, but most have consisted of an outer, padded vest which on its own can stop smaller pieces of shrapnel. But the real life-saving part are these plates that are inserted within the vest and are rated to stop up to armor piercing 7.62mm rounds from any range. Women are constantly complaining that the flat nature of these plates crush their breasts and make it difficult to breathe. There are a number of other design flaws that they take issue with as well, and the Army recently responded by making a vest more suited for the female form, with a shorter torso, etc.

well no arguing there, quite obvious protective armor needs to be adjusted because the differance of the anathomy etc

IDK, I guess my point is that male armor isn't exactly functional for women, either. In fact, did you know that during the Middle Ages, the absurdity of a woman donning armor was so extreme that there aren't any legitimate, believable sources or accounts from which we can base our notions of female armor? So while "boob plate" armor is very fantastical, it is no more fantastical than a woman wearing armor at all. Therefore, one isn't really taking absurd liberties by portraying a woman in female form-fitting armor, because it is equally absurd to imagine them in a man's suit of armor. And this being an Art form, I prefer the former portrayal, which to me is no more impractical than a woman wearing armor that makes it difficult to breathe in.

"She turned blue and passed out after thirty minutes of combat, but at least no man could penetrate her (armor)."

you know for example they just recently discovered that aproximately half the fighting force of the vikings were women (ok I seriously doubt it though, but at least some of them were). as noone ever suspected that noone ever bothered to analyse the bones in the warrior graves. the gender was not identified by looking at the gear or weaponry for that matter. i know its no plate armor at the time, but there sure hell was no chainmail bikini!

oh and while were on it! http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/05/boob-plate-armor-would-kill-you
im quite aware that it would be some difficulties for most women to wear mens plate armor, but seriouly there must be better way to adjust this to the armor than creating death traps on the chest.

IMO, the sexy woman in armor bothers me no more than the muscle-bound, bearded barbarian. Both are taking liberties with the subject matter.

i wouldnt mind either, if all men miniatues in the world were disigned like conan then it would be equal, but male miniatures is designed in one hundred different kind of designs where just a little part are naked barbarians while 99% of the women are designed half naked with boobies like balloons.

as a sidenote the mini andy was painted were actually quite tasteful in comparison to many other women minis. but whyyyyyyyy the boobtraps??

Well someone has to share them, Ten it is not nice of you to horde them you know, this is a community to share those important insightful ways of painting to reach new levels of blending. :) My secret (although Skel already told it somewhere) is to use a size 4 brush or bigger to get that smooth transition that is needed for facial details.

/K

That it actually a damn cool mini mate. I am always blown away from your bright highlights. You are always able to maximize your pure whites in a way that I've never tried, but will have to sometime soon. I guess the idea is to keep the range of grays on the NMM much lighter. If I were you, I'd go without the colored glazes over the armor on this one. Just keep it the brilliant steel that it is.

Yep gonna keep the steel more grey; there are some glazes in there but not much. I've been looking at the old alexi z mounted version of this one and jeez Louise she's got some super smooth blending going on and some very well picked out details. Anyway here's a further update mainly the gold done.

Mike I'll let you have that one after the comments I made about you. Your revenge is served cold ;)

Lee it was not my fault honest it's just that the shop was shut and I had to take the batteries out of my sons Thomas the tank engine toy so there wasn't much juice left.

Meph the thing about space is that it's gonna be there tomorrow and a lot more of them besides were as the good will of my wife letting me paint well hmm that's a very finite thing so you have to get he painting in quick! There should be research done on the spur to creativity of a pissed off spouse!

size 4 is for pussies! You need to use bill board paste brushes to be real hardcore!;)
