Hello fellow miniature painters.
I have started a new miniature project and am looking for some advice. I am painting a force of angles encarmine for 40k and have reached a point where my project can go in two directions. For starters I have tried to use zenithal highlighting by airbrushing the miniatures first in black primer and then with white from above (focus on the top and front of the mini). Then I coated the minis in VMA Italian red, brush painted black jump packs and coated the entire mini in gloss varnish. The aim is to paint space maries in a quite realistic way where the light comes from above and the armor is well take care of. My problem is that the big black jump pack looks a bit boring (a big black glossy blob). Now I either have two choices, either I paint highlights and that will give a return to the more cartoony style or I just do as I do with my guardsmen paint the entire minis hard surfaces with a thin wash of VMC medium grey and MIG pigment European earth. The last option will remove the knight in shining armor feel of the model and give more dirty “been in the field for some time” look.
Input and suggestion are welcome. As I don’t have a clear question I am just looking for a few thoughts and some input.
Thanks
