Animation Blast from the Past - The Last Unicorn

My wife and I were cruising the used DVD section at our local Half Price Books store and my jaw dropped when I saw \"The Last Unicorn\". I hardly remembered anything about the movie except that I absolutely loved it as a kid.

Needless to say, I bought it, and after watching it I can say that nostalgia is one of the great sensations in life. I still love the movie (some great voice talent, btw), and I was really intrigued by the anime style of the animation. Was anime already catching on in the West that long ago (1982)?

Anyway, I was just curious if others here enjoyed it also or have other \"rediscoveries\" from their youth.

LOL, my friend loves that movie! I think it\'s pretty neat, in a very weird way (it has very depressing and creepy moments). It kind of reminds me of the old animated \"Lord of the Rings\" at times (no cheapo rotoscoping, thank god).

@Evil Dave - I saw some comments about a live action version on the IMDB, but I got the sense that the project had stalled. I guess we\'ll see!

@NSA - agree with the mood - very melancholy for a kid\'s film, with interesting flaws in each character.

@JesterzUSMC - Watership Down is another of my old time favorites, and I found it on DVD at the same store. That place is a goldmine!

If you\'ve only seen the movie and not read the book, I highly recommend the book. Funny, poignant and great use of language. One of my very favourites.

Aaaah! Watership Down and The Last Unicorn! Love both books, have both films on DVD.

I remember Watership Down being our favourite film when my sis and I were younger and I still love it twenty years on. When I watch it now, I\'m still surprised at just how gritty it is. Bigwig in the snare and the part where the old warren gets gassed... *shiver!*

I remember some funky ones from the outback as well, a girl named Dot and some weird tooney boogey man?
Vague memories, anyone know what I\'m talking about? ???

@Wren - Thanks for the suggestion about the book. I\'ll have to check it out.

@JesterzUSMC - Don\'t know anything about Dot and the Boogey Man, but I do remember a cool animated short about a Dot that hangs out with a Squiggle, but eventually falls for the more well-behaved Line. Anyone remember that one?

Mommy Fortuna would make a really cool miniature, wouldn\'t she?

On the subject of old animated films, does anyone apart from myself and my boyfriend remember a Chinese animation about a young boy/girl* and four dragons a very long time ago? It\'s calld something like \"Little Nezha and the Dragon Princes\", and it\'s so dark! The boy commits suicide at one point! On screen!

And further to this, if anyone has the slightest idea where I\'d find it? I\'ve run the occasional search, but I can\'t find anything concrete.

*I\'ve inserted this ambiguity because I distinctly remember the kid being a boy, and such is the case, but my bf thought he was a girl, and perhaps he wasn\'t the only one...

The idea of logic vs magic in the end is brilliant:bouncy:
