Another Army in a Month - Eldar!

Okay, some more progess on the test model for each type.

Not even close to done, I know, but at least getting technique down. Since I now have two army boxes to paint, getting a consistent technique will be fairly important.

@pestie: I\'m still trying to develop good speed painting techniques, and the \"prime, then wash, then paint\" is something I\'m attempting for this box. I had hoped that the translucency of a thin paint layer over the high contrast wash would move the model quickly toward a finished look. It didn\'t work out quite as easily as I had originally imagined. I might try a liberal basecoat first and high contrast washes after to see what I get on other models, but these are already underway. (high contrast wash being ink + future solution.)

All my commission work lately is high volume, so the more speed tricks I learn the better off I\'ll be.

Best up so far seems to be the dragon, problem for me is that different techniques work best with different colours, to be honest, and I know that round here it\'s similar to saying \'I worship Satan\' in methodist sunday school, but I still find that drybrushing followed by ink washes is still the fastest most effective way by far, have a look and see what you thinkof these eldar and
terminators.

Okay, Guardians are done. The army box comes with 8 guardians on sprue, plus a weapon team of 2 guardians. Since guardians must be fielded in units of 10+, you must include the weapon crew as part of the guardian squad (it\'s an option in the codex to upgrade 2 guardians in the squad to a weapon crew, although the choices for the weapon platform are more limited than the heavy support weapon platform.)

Next up, Dire Avengers. Wednesday marks the two week point and I want to have DA\'s mostly done and a good chunk of Fire Dragons and/or Howling Banshees started by then.

Regarding gems... current method that seems to work well:
1. base coat gem bright.. blood red or electric blue.
2. wash with fairly dilute future wash w/ black paint. let dry. this deepens the color and outlines the gem.
3. glaze upper section of gem with future/black paint, leaving crescent of color at bottom.
4. add specular of white at top of gem.
5. glaze with ink of gem color.

When you have 30 some odd gems on a squad to paint, it makes the work fairly quick and doesn\'t look half bad.

@hubbabubba... nicely done on the terminators and Eldar. If I could make drybrushing look that good I\'d probably use it more. Mine always looks really dusty.

Just more progress pics.

Dire Avengers coloration and freehand test for Exarch

Howling Banshees ... one more highlight level to go on basic armor

@Edimasta: The fire dragon was primed white, washed several times in black, then red gore was painted in the areas that were left white/gray, then highlighted blood red. I guess the key is to wash until the deep spots are quite dark, then make sure you don\'t let the red paint seep into the deep, dark spots. For future models, I might give them a good solid red gore base coat and only then do the multiple black washes.

Two weeks of my four are up tomorrow... I still have three large models and an Autrarch to assemble and paint, let alone finishing this infantry!

Okay, Howling Banshees as done. I\'ll correct mistakes if I see any, but I don\'t have any more plans for them. I was hoping to get all infantry done this weekend, but ... well... anyway. Another three days perhaps on infantry. Sooooo many doodads.

The pics just look white to me... all color subtlety on the mini is gone in the photo.
The black sashes are to match the Ulthwe theme of the army. Fire Dragons are getting bone sashes for the same reason. The freehand on the foreheads is the Eye of Isha... the Ulthwe symbol. Sort of an Egyptian eye thingy.

Photobucket tip: in the \"upload\" area is a link labeled \"uploading options.\" Use that link to select a larger file size than default... recently they added auto-resampling to a fairly low resolution, and to get around it you need to set the option yourself. The early pics in this thread are at the new default level. The newer pics in this thread are using the \"Max Image Size 1 Megabyte File Size\" option.

Looking good so far. How are the dragons looking. Your test model seemed great. Did you get to finish at least one model for us to see?

Okay, this \"month\" is turning out longer than expected. Everyone in my family has been sick, including me, and it drains the painting time. It\'s been 2 out of 5 of us sick for a month now. I\'m the only sick one now, and hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick. argh.

Anyway, all infantry except Fire Dragons (I know... the only one people have asked about) are done. They are being delivered tomorrow. I need to finish the FD\'s, paint the Wraithlord and assemble the Viper and Falcon still. Oh, and the Autrarch. Oh, and then I have another box to paint. :drunk:

Howling Banshees

Guardians with bright lance platform (I painted all the heavy weapons for game-specific swapage :) )

Dire Avengers (say it with me now... Shimmer Shield!)

Assembled and primed Wraithlord.

Looking ok.
The banshees look better in this second picture.
Best for me are the guardians.
Don\'t kill yourself commission painting!
