Another Celtos! Huzzah!

Hey folks,

Managed to get another miniature finished up - and it took too damn long in my opinion as real life kept jumping up and catching me in the backside or I found myself working on this or that for the Paint Aid. Very pleased to finally finish it.

Anyhow, tried something new with this miniature and decided to pick out three colors that I was going to use for it (not counting flesh) and when it came down to it, I used black, white and camoflage green and between those three paints, mixed whatever I needed by adding this or that. Rather pleased with it overall, though I think if I had allowed myself some additional colors I wouldn\'t have found the sheath and the quiver so terribly aggrivating (not too pleased with that portion to tell the truth).

Used the Ground Forge bases that finally came in (great stuff SpaceMunkie - go buy some folks) and of course I got to use some of the Hudsen and Allen Leaf Litter that Supervike and Grumb sent me. Was dying to find a miniature to use it with after all the trouble those two went through to send it to me!

Anyhow, votes and comments are appreciated!

Come on .. gimme some love and vote! LINK

Nice work FF, I voted and I\'ll leave my comment for you here :p

The first thing that caught my eye was that the lighting in your photography looks very severe. Which is unfortunately a little distracting, as your paint jobs seem to be getting better and better quite quickly!

Nice looking skin tones and face, and I really like your choice of colors on this one.

Your nmm I think could use a bit more contrast to it. Make the shadows darker and also put add those hot spots glinting light off a metal surface. I also think the green cloak could use a touch more depth, although that is fairly minor.

As always, nice looking base as well.

good job Nathan, keep it up!

Thanks Eric, this does help out.

Yeah, my \'photo box\' (alright, its a cut up milk jug .. badly cut up) is rather decripit and I don\'t think I\'m getting the diffusion that is needed. I hope to fix that in the near future, but you\'re quite correct about the lighting.

NMM, second time around and I found it to be a bit easier this time and I expect to find it more so as I go. Shadows .. I\'ll keep that in mind, I\'m still trying to get the idea of just how things \'bounce\' and \'shine\' so to speak.

As for the depth on the cloak, what would you suggest? Bit more highlighting I take it or more shadows .. or both? Might be able to rework those a bit as, thankfully, it is rather accessable on the miniature.

Thanks for time! I hope to follow in your footsteps somewhat as I\'ve seen your before and after post and the five months in between. Needless to say, I\'m jealous! (just where is that hammer anyway ...)

Anyone else? This is the only way I\'ll learn .. well that and my good friend pinesol.

lol hopefully we\'ll get that pine sol out of your life soon enough lol

The NMM is great for a 2nd try, what I noticed really helped when I was learning nmm was to really be aware of my real life surroundings. And more importantly than color I would watch for tone, where it was dark, and where it was light, and perhaps most importantly where those hot points were. I swear I nearly got into more than one car accident while I was looking at the reflection off a metal hubcap or bumper or something...once I even nearly rear ended a Mercedies trying to see how the light worked off the emblem working closer and closer to see better.

For the cloak it could probably use one more shadow and one more highlight layer. It\'s hard to say for sure however, with the lighting in the photo it\'s hard to tell because it\'s really very good, I just think minor tweeks would perfect it.

Well lets see, June 16th (5 months from now), we\'ll see how your minis look, I\'ll bet you a drink we see amazing improvement! Cmon was really the whole catalyst for my improvement over the last 10 or so months, which is one of the reasons I try to make sure to give as good feedback as I can on every post here.

Talk to you soon FF,

-Eric

Hello...

I went over and had a look at the piece. I won\'t go over what Eric said. Rather, I\'ll just push a thought or two at you.

The base is very nice and the important thing at the moment is cleanliness. I\'ve seen people who run and dive into things far too quickly and forget the basics. You\'ve kept everything where it is supposed to be and given a nice feel to the piece overall. The paint needs smoothing out a little in parts, but an extender could do that if mixed with each layer - or even if mixed with the undercoat to give you the smoothest starting point possible.

I put it at 6-7, more likely 7 due to the precise work. If you build on that you\'ll be laughing into your beer! Good choice of colour, clean work, nice base.

Hey there FF -
Can\'t really add much new, but I will say I like the white hair/black eyebrow combo, looks good. His shoulder plate looks like the recess has the highlight color in it though - maybe its the angle or something (the rear shot is the one I see this in).

Voted & commented, nothing new to add, because I had a Beer lobotomy over the weekend and I\'m in no state for original thought :duh:

But I did squeeze in a bit of Rev bashing lol Bad Potiff! (no reason, Im just a bit random today)

(laughing at Donga and Reverend)

Thanks for the comments and critiques.

I believe you on the car accidents Eric, I think I\'ll try and avoid that myself, though I might get something nice and shiney and set it next to the window and keep it around as something to eyeball as an example.

As for getting it smoother Reverend, I\'m certainly trying on the skin but I haven\'t quite figured out what you folks are doing there yet. I used to use just straight up water and retarder but now I\'ve moved over to \'magic wash\' or whatever it is ya\'ll go on about here. Seems to work well enough but not so that I would gush over it. Of course, I might be doing something wrong.

:D

Still, it could be one of two things now that I think about it. First, I spray prime my miniatures and someone stated that they thought that was horrid. The next thought on it could be that I\'m putting it on too thick (even though I water/mix it down to what I think is fairly thin). More layers perhaps? I\'ll have to work on it.

As for the highlight Primeval, I think it is the light reflecting or washing out my miniature as it is fairly dark in there for the most part. Think a better photo jug/box is in order.

Thanks again folks ... off to try my hand at the next one, though of course, I did his skin last night and did a dull coate and guess what ... came out shiney. Little pissed about that (first time too .. dunno what happened).

hiya!

like donga I too had a \'beer lobotomy\' over the weekend (except for the fact that it was Jagermeigster and shots of Cinamon schnapps and tabasco sauce.....ugh:|~)

I voted and commented on your pic Nathan...looking good!
