Hi everyone!

It\'s been over a year since I submitted a mini to the site, and even longer since I painted something, so here is my entry to Mays CMON comp. I thought it would be a \"quick\" paintjob, cos it\'s really just some skin and some leather!!! But no....of course not......it\'s the day of submission and it\'s just finished

I\'m delighted to have finished another figure, and in two weeks!- a recent health scare has helped me put a few things into perspective, and one of them is wasting time just thinking about painting.....I\'ll only improve if paint!

here\'s the votey link thing:

hope you like it!

It\'s funny as someone in the General forums complained that people don\'t have a chance of winning the CMON contests and one of the responses was \"The really big guns don\'t enter anyway\".

Guess they do!

Anyway, great job! It looks like you used quite a bit of green in your fleshtone for shade (or I\'m awful... either way). Care to talk about it a little? Another thread somewhere on here we\'re talking about breaking the mold of the usual brown to ligt flesh style skin tones most of us do, and I\'d like to point to this thread if you\'re willing.

Thanks, and good luck!

Thats a really lovely paint job Rob.
The skin is fantastic, such a variance is colours and yet so natural.
More quick paintjobs!!!!

Scott - I\'m flattered that you think I may be part of \"the really big guns\" but that\'s hardly me! My entering is pretty much having a deadline to work to....it\'s been so long since i painted anything and tend to procrastinate.....and I did see that thread! ;)

Cheers Nigel - definately more quick paintjobs from me......

Inspirational? wow! thanks Mr Luna!

Back to your question, Scott; I made a deliberate attempt to try for more variation in the flesh scheme, after all, there\'s a lot of it on this one.....

There was both a little turquoise and grey in the highlight mix for this......my first instinct was to keep it minimal but then bravely (for me) pushed the envelope and made it more noticable - I\'d sent a pic to Ritual during the painting with a very bad background colour and you simply couldn\'t tell how the flesh was tinted - he suggested changing it and so here it is - getting the colour balance right for the photo helped.

I tried a couple of new things during the painting of this - first I airbrushed a base flesh tone (!) that was actually a terracota colour and a mid to dark fleshtone - and worked up the light catching parts with the highlight tone - problem was I could start to see the paint becoming granular as I thinned it and suddenly realised what this \"flow improver\" you read about was all about......so this is the first time I\'ve used flow improver.....

It was actually quite a tricky mini to paint.......it looks simple but could easily become boring

oh....I chickened out of giving her a tatoo......with a bit more time I might have done, but it was my brother\'s wedding this weekend just gone......

I\'m really glad you mentioned the skin tone, Scott, because it means I was succesful!

Great to see a new piece from you Rob been a while... I like the way that you\'ve approached her.. The skin is the focal point of the sculpt and your painting has emphasised this. The leathers look like leather and the fur on the boots just like fur so cool..
Not a massive fan of the blue gems maybe a more turquoise tone would tie a touch better they just kind of cach my eye a little currently..
Nice simple basework as well which really lets her tell her own story so all in all, big fan of this lady . .. great stuff ...
