This is another really good advice from BAM, is about holding the mini at an arms length and take a look at it to check its contrast.
Following his comment there is another very interesting one from Bailey about looking at the miniatures under different light conditions to see if your contrast and colour work is into the right direction.

..../ this is again something I do and while not necessary it gives more of that 3d presentation on these very tiny models which is key being they are not affected by light the way humans are at our scale...maybe not on him but break yourself into trying it down the road you'll see the gloss and blood will be affected but it will be affected in a much more realistic 3d way.there's a test I do that I teach to people. It's called a near/far test. This test will let the artist know of he has enough highlight / shade ratio and if the model has been manipulated enough by contrast to appear 3d etc. So all models look the way an artist intends up close that's because we all paint upclose.lol but hold the model 1.5-2 feet away or at arms length .give some quick glances to it and play a game say I'm gonna see if the fingers and nails look detailed Iow if I can have my eyes differentiate the differences between each finger etc at a glance. Also you can say do the wounds look like woundo with peeled recessed skin or are they just looking like red balls in the sea of skin..if the eye can differentiate what your wanting to see in the test then you have enough contrast edge highlights etc. If it cannot the that is personally where I go in a make adjustments. Use this test. Try it out its worth more than all the money in Fort knox.../....

I owe this man a kingdom xD really good advice from him.
On the other hand I'm a little bit sad because I cannot give him enough reputaton points because he gives advice more frequently than I can give him reputation points. So if you feel like you are going to take profit of this advice give him and to Bailey too a rep point please ^^
