porkchop806 is ripping through the gallery with some extremely low-scoring Another Mini pieces. See them while you can in the gallery! Here\'s one:

There are many. Browse at your leisure.

I feel sorry for the lad and I want to offer him the bosom of a good woman to comfort him. Any women takers?

wow poor guy is getting bashed with the ratings

I looked at his gallery and most of the stuff looks like the same tank just different angles. Maybe he just needs to take a photo from farther away and put all the angles on the same showing

He has good concepts, and you can see what he is attempting to do for his color schmes and highlights but either he is using the wrong paint or too big of a brush because they are not coming out the way he intended at all

I am always dissapointed to see pictures like that put up here.

Now I am NOT opposed to beginners, and perhaps young people (I\'m making some assumptions here) posting stuff, participating in this site, asking questions etc. But I deal with beginners around my LGS all the time. I mean real, real new members of the hobby. People who literally need to be shown how to clean a brush, people who learn that you use water to clean most of the time to clean brushes etc. and the one thing I\'ve found is they all need ENCOURAGEMENT. I love helping these guys out when they start. They\'re so enthusiastic and it really takes me back. Actually this site has helped me re-energize my love of painting so kudos (Or shame?) to those here that help me out.

The poster porkchopXXX is probably very proud of his work and the low scores (Deserved, granted) may not be fueling his love of the hobby. I am going to PM him and reccomend he check out the articles section and maybe PM the odd poster and ask questions about his work.

Ah, nothing wrong with being horrible if you\'re having fun. For those of us who have a self critical streak and do attach a little of our self worth to our min\'s then i agree with you 100% that it would be at least a little discouraging to have your work reviled so.

I posted a comment and PM\'d him and I hope, if my assumption that he\'s a youngster/raw beginner are true, that he doesn\'t put too much stock in his CMON ranking!

maybe there should be an opt out of voting function?for ppl at this leval of painting as said before it can be very off putting to some of the newcomers
just a thought lol

Right but I think that may not be the issue. I know I got a co-worker who started posting mini\'s here and in his heart and soul he feels he should be getting 5-7\'s. Turns out the rest of the planet thinks they\'re only about 1/2 that good.

So my question to people is \"Why post a mini if YOU think it\'s going to score less than 5?\".

Anyway, there may be a chance that PorkChop felt his work was really good, and would have wanted the validation of getting those scores. I know when I started posting here I just kind of assumed I would be getting 8\'s and 9\'s for my work as it\'s pretty decent by the local standard and I have even won awards for my efforts! Turns out my pride and joy models score between about 5.5 and 6.5ish (Deservedly, I\'m not whining).

Without rambling (too late!) I just think an option to opt out of voting would only be valuable AFTER you found out what your scores were... and then it\'s too late!

why would you post a mini on a site called cool mini or not if people can\'t rate it? surely just open a photo album

What is this? Can I get MYSELF rated? Oh man... Can\'t wait to get told that my eyebrows need less contrast, or that my waistline needs a little less definition from where the gut hangs over. Or that maybe my space between my face and my shoulders needs a little less thickness. Perhaps not enough work on the chalky texture of my flesh areas?

Oh they\'re so many great ways to be critiscized nowadays!

I think if someone is willing to give a rating so low, at least give the guy some tips / pointers on how he can improve his mini\'s

All his stuff is 2\'s - 3\'s with no comments, that is someone being critical without trying to help the community

a fair point. at least bringing his work to the attention of the forum dwellers may increase his number of comments

I agree to an extent BigD, but my question is why post efforts of that quality without doing the research first? Taking a look on this site you\'ve got the forums, the articles, and the actual mini\'s themselves all as GREAT rescources to improve your skill base. And free at that too!

The voting pages are the HARSHEST place to have your work viewed, and most don\'t take time to leave comments, and fewer stil will leave comments when the poster themselves hasn\'t taken the time to strip the dreadful \"Another Mini\" from the title.

I\'m not raggin\' too much on porkchop, there are a lot of factors that I am willing to consider, but I did mark his work very low.

I don\'t have a problem with newbies in general, either to painting or CMON, and I try to comment on submitted minis of a variety of levels. I do think posting different angles of the same mini in 87 different posts suggests that someone hasn\'t taken the time to browse the site a little and try to figure out the basic etiquette of the place, and that I find myself a little less patient about. I was getting pretty frustrated as tank view after tank view came up last night while I was voting!

Wren- You in fact were the first to give me some constructive critiscism on my work! Part of my decision to go all the way and start supporting the site and posting here. So thanks from me!

Wren rules as far as leaving constructive feedback! She is a great painter as well (sorry to sound like a fanboy, but it IS true).
