I think there should be a \"Wren is awesome\" club. I\'d join! :D

Not really sure. It was \"Another Mini\" and the focus was so bad you couldn\'t tell. It had two feet, and two arms, and maybe a head with horns. That was all the detail I could gather.

Strange, that appears to have been reverends\' intent.

Approving images sometimes is a double edged sword, Okay we get to see some stunning images before most of you. (Notable other forum pimpers excepted)lol But along side the Shineys we also get to see some \"less than outstanding pieces\". Occasionaly we have to refuse some because of really poor image quality, non rotation of images or just plain taking the P*ss.

I remember approving the images that reverend flagged up and thinking \"Ok Beginner or perhaps 12 year old\" . Doesn\'t mean that they are bad or deserving being battered in scores, in fact they are reasonable and probably wouldn\'t stand out as \"poor\" in any GW store.
It\'s only that WE have developed rather exacting standards due to the high level of top notch figures we see on here that the divide between scores has widened.

Kudos to the people who are bothering to discuss means of improving the person\'s painting in comments on their minis, and to the people slagging off others work.....Why?

@ScottRadom, Treide, Amazon warrior - Thanks so much for the kind words, I\'m really happy to know that my comments have been helpful!

I think the Oswald Harvey scale is the way to go. If you\'re extremely lucky you can walk away with a perfect 6.0! The scale also starts at 4.0 in case you were wondering. Ah, I can remember the days when your average sitcom was actually worth watching. Respectable TV comedies are a dying breed (I\'ll watch Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men if I have to, but I won\'t call it respectable).

BTW does the whole concept of a thread dedicated to one guy\'s poorly rated minis seem a tad mean-spirited to anyone else? Or is it just me?

Knowing reverend as well as anyone on here, I\'d say that the reason he the originated the thread wasn\'t to dismiss someones ability, rather for the community to redress the balance of undeserved poor scores.

First of all, unless I misunderstood this place, are we not here to post pics and learn? Yes, I know I only have one pic and its not a great one, but why are we bashing somebody who is painting. The worse thing in the world is actually playing a game with someone who can\'t be bothered to slap some paint on their mini\'s.

He has taken the time and is showing what he can do... either he has low photo skills, low painting skills, or both. I know my camera skills are no where near good enough to get a great rating, and I don\'t object to the ratings I was given. Also, my painting skills aren\'t high enough yet to get great ratings.

Hopefully, by coming here I can move on to advanced techniques and create the art that the higher level painters do.

Going to the elitest side will drive people away. Art is subjective... just because you don\'t like it doesn\'t mean the person creating it can\'t be proud.

Just my two cents worth... feel free to bash it. lol

thats on of the main \'features\' of this site. when i first joined i hadnt really seen minis on the net didnt read white dwarf and didnt see others work in person so to me my stuff seemed good. its only once you get on here and see the standards that can be reached you realise your painting can be found wanting. its like thinking oh im good at gran turismo, i\'ll have a go at le mans.

i think the multiple shots is a factor in the scoring, i know it drives me potty after 10 of them in a row

Actually I PM\'d Porkchop and tried to extend ye old helping hand and told him a few things people hate around here, the multiple shots, the \"Another Mini\", and welcomed him to check out the articles and join the forums for some tips and advice.

the response was short, but positive!

Another thing to consider here with mini\'s painted at what some of us think is a substandard paintjob is their economic status

Sure most of us adults dont find much of a problem getting the supplies / mini\'s we want but think about it in the eyes of a 12-13 year old that is just starting

Maybe his parents will get him that 30$ space marine tank but wont pay 3-4$ for a bottle of GW paint... when they can go to walmart and buy a box set of 24 paints for 8.99$.... Warhammer models as a hobby and/or game are very expensive. Parents may be very unwilling to pay 50$ for a model toy that looks like a hunk of metal that still has to be painted. .. Especially when that hunk of metal is the price of a telephone, cable, or light bill

@ BigDennis-

I totally disagree here. The chief issue with a lot of rookie posters, and I think Porkchop here is less to do with their quality of work but the Carpet Bombing of multiple angle submissions, and the \"another mini\" descriptor.

Also cheap paint is a problem, sure, but I Know I\'ve seen people achieve decent results using cheapo paints. Economic status also plays no part when you consider most of these posters put down pictures of about 300$+ in figs at a time.

What I offered Porkchop in ways of advice was to use this site as a rescource in becoming better. Articles, these forums, and the pics themselves will all help him get better faster by following the excellent information available here. Even if he was part of an enviornment that only offered him less then high quality paint his models can still benifit greatly from a little extra patience, practice, and persistence.

Just to verify what\'s been written already, I posted the thread to garner some grassroots support for the lad. The repsonse has been good. I\'m not a particularly mean-spirited sort and I\'m not an elitist. Not good enough to be elitist and I wouldn\'t be elitist even if I was good enough :D
