I really enjoy painting. I love it. I yearn to do it. So why am I wasting my time doing everything but painting? I have had all day to paint (8 Hrs without the wife) but everytime I go to that room I just feeled pulled away. Anybody know why it is so hard to start painting?

Biggest enemy of the writer (apart from lack of talent) is \'writer\'s block\'.

Well, for me I sually think \"No, if I start painting , Ill have to mix something and use it before it goes bad\". Either that or other people are giving me work I don\'t wanna do (i.e: School) or I might just be lazy.

I know this is probably weird, because this is mostly a solitairy hobby, but I can\'t paint by myself. I get motivated to do it, I start, and I lose interest in about half an hour. But if I\'m painting with someone, I can paint for hours.

That may be the attraction for all those people you see, studiously painting in GW shops whenever you visit. You almost feel guilty for disturbing them:flip: Possibly a \'tribal urge\', but I don\'t want to invoke psychology againlollol:flip:

Oh my god......me too. I\'ve just spent all day phaffing about \'prepping\' some models: cleaning and priming and haven\'t got around to painting a single one

I wouldn\'t mind, but I\'ve done this for the past 3 weekends in a row and it\'s getting damn depressing now.

Just can\'t seem to get motivated - I like the idea of \'painters block\' thou Finn. Perhaps its a case of too many models sitting there and I\'m overwhelmed?

I sure hope tomorrow is a better day - I get really fed-up when Monday rolls round and I haven\'t achieved anything.

In my case, it\'s a problem of too many models that I bought and now don\'t really have any idea why. I buy things and then realize I don\'t really have a color scheme, etc for them....

Just went through it a couple weeks ago before I painted the Helmsunder model...he was one model that broke me out of it a little...this week after hemming and hawing all week I\'ve finally started working on Thor...maybe it\'s the Viking thing?

I sometimes have the same problem. I walk up to the bench, switch the lights on, look at the thirty of forty minis sitting there wiating to be painted, and just switch the lights back oof and walk out of the room. One thing I\'ve found that helps is tht I bought several of those organizers, like they sell in a hardware store for sorting screws and such, and put most of the minis away so that I\'m not so overwhelmed. Seemed to help, also gave me a lot more room to work.

Just a thought.

to paint or not to paint...

I spent all day trying to find time to paint, and I finally got some time this afternoon.

I was feverishly trying to finish the CMON Amazon, but I really screwed up the blade and the cape (damn ink!).

So, I used my trusty exacto knife and scraped off the paint, (it worked just like a pencil eraser!!). Then I got to re-prime those areas.

So, for painting for almost 2 hours, I find myself further behind than I was!

I wish I would have had \'painters block\' today! :flame:

Yeah well that might be Ok for Kung Fu but I think everyone suffers from the \'Painters block\' now and again. Sometimes I\'m able to take excess hours worked off from work (Flexi-time) and I find that If I don\'t sit down first thing in the morning and start painting then I may as well go back to bed and sleep the day away.
I usually don\'t get the chance topaint during the week as most days I don\'t get home until after 7pm ( I usually leave for work about 06:45am) so I just chill out either online or with a good book, or if it\'s Monday been watching \"Firefly\" . It\'s only if I have a specific project and a time line to work to that I find no problem in sitting down & painting without hesitation.
Yesterday working on my GDUK entry I took 3.5 hours just doing the base and it\'s still not primed yet!

But when that\'s cleared it\'ll be a case of which one to do next and I\'ll sit for hours just droolling. (Tempest Fugit):innocent:

thats it! too many choices on the table is a big one too. But I find that after clicking through some pics here at cmon I get inspired again.

I just cleaned up my workbench and build one of those handy little model holding jobs with the ruber clamps for the base. Cant wait to try it out.

good, i\'m glad it\'s not just me! i also find that i will really get into a model and spend ages prepping, priming etc but then cock up something on the paint job and just loose the will to carry on. i will start another model and ge into that and every now and again look at the other one and think \'i should really finish that one off.\' i suck

I find that the best thing to do is just to concentrate on one model at a time, just try and prioritise like you would jobs at work. Also try setting yourself a deadline, this might help to motivate you. :idea:

As for why people are at the moment having difficulty feeling motivated, it could be the heat!

Ah thanks for the advice everyone. I don\'t usually have so many models out, but due to my current \'PB\' I just keep cleaning and prepping - it\'s a good excuse not to paint.....

I too get inspired by CMON - it\'s such a cool place isn\'t it? So many talented people and lots of good advice - like now for instance. A problem shared is a problem debated on CMON

Think it\'s about time to get my sh*t together and pick up something other than the spray-can!

Yeah Painters Block

I new I had suffered with something. Thank you doctor for diagnosing me.
I suffered with this after I finished my first demon entry. couldn\'t even look at a brush without going cold for about 3 weeks. until the bit arrived for my second entry that is

you know what really helped me? I went online and printed some of my all time favorite mini\'s on some nice glossy paper, then pinned them up around my work table. Whenever I walk into the room I feel really inspired. The biggest thing that gives me painting block is when I know the next thing i have to do on a mini (or worse, agroup of minis!) is something really dull, like brown leather straps. but the picture thing really helps!
