Any advice regarding brake fluid?

I\'ve stripped miniatures in the past, both plastic and lead with brake fluid. I\'ve never had any problems in any way shape or form. However, i recently stripped back some Night Goblin Archers from 4th ed. warhammer, and the brake fluid has melted them slightly, so that the finest details on the models are now slightly disfigured.

I\'ve also been told that there are different grades of brake fluid. Does anyone know which brake fluid is best for stripping plastics? If its of any worth, im in australia using valvoline heavy duty brake fluid. Im not sure whether it is the brake fluid, or a different type of plastic on the miniatures to be honest, but any help/suggestions/solutions would be very much appreciated.

I\'m pretty sure that you can get Dettol down under, It\'s worked better that Brake Fluid in that it\'s safer on plastic.
There are several threads on Stripping (mini\'s as well) try a search for them.

The Americans seem to swear by a product called \'Simple Green\'. If you can\'t get Dettol, perhaps that might be available.

The \'Search\' button is at the top of this page. There is tons of stuff about stripping minis:flip:

Brake fluid is bad all around, for your skin, disposing of it etc. Like the post above said, use Simple Green it works just as well and is biodegradable, here is a link to finding it...

I second the Simple Green. Used that many times, and it works great.

Lately, though, I\'ve started using Castrol Super Clean (aka \"Purple Stuff of DOOM!\"). It\'s stronger than Simple Green, and is still biodegradable, so I\'m pretty happy with it. I still have yet to try it with greenstuff (Simple Green seems fine with it).

You may be able to find this stuff just about anywhere. Check http://www.castrol.com to see if they have products in your area. It does say they have a UK division (as well as many others), so this may be a possibility for Oz! ;)

Not for plastics....

Simple green is awesome...It works quickly on metals, it\'s clean, etc, but I\'ve never had sucess with it on plastics...

It is either too weak to get all of the paint, or it starts to soften the plastic.

yea simple green distorted my plastics:mad:but pinesol works fine for me i kknow other people have had problem with pinesol and plastics but i havent???

Thank you everyone. I did try searching before i posted, but couldnt find the search link. I\'ll try that now. I\'ll also try some Dettol. We do have it here, but i\'ve never thought of trying it. I have tried pineoclean, which is a similar stuff, but it never worked well. I\'ll get some tomorrow. Thanks for the quick replies everyone.
