Any good displays of Green and Red?

Does anybody know of any pics here that have models who\'s main colors are dark green and dark red?

I am painting a regiment of Space Marines for a friend and he wants their colors to be green AND red. I\'m just afraid I\'m going to make them look like Santa\'s Elves.

If you know of any and can link me there, I\'d be so pleased.

Actually, this migt not be that hard to do. I think most uniforms in the world incorparate these two colors. If you did a green camo pattern with red strips to show what squad they belonged to or red \"piping\" along the edges, that\'d look cool. I\'d look at old WWI and II uniforms, as GW bases thier minis somewhat off of them.

To avoid that xmas feel, use off colours, for example catachan green, or green mixed with a little brown and red mixed with a litttle brown, or black. Lighten the colour with bleached bone or similar, as well as or instead of yellow and white for the highlights, depending upon how \"off\" you want the colour.

Doing this seems to make the colours less bright and look more realistic as well.

32062... I\'m bad at computing so if someone wants to put a link to that then it would help.

This is Steve Buddles Jena Orechiel and Steve does amazing red and green! Check out the whole gallery for really brilliant examples.

Barkel - I kinda agree with Chrispy here - use an older military uniform for your base. I\'d go with an Olive Drab/Dark Green, and a maroon piping - or you could Quarter/Halve the figures using the two colors.

thanks

Here is the mini AlexDaKid suggested:

I think that is an awesome example. The other ideas are good too. Unfortunately if I go too far away from normal shades of green and red I\'ll probably upset my friend. The idea of the green uniform with red lines is a good one. I will consider it carefully.

Please keep the suggestions and links coming. I have a long time to work on this unit.

That better?

I think the gold yellow helps to bring this one together, it looks like one of those washed-out candles of saints.. Which is good, considering the subject. :p

One trick is to not use an even amount of red and green. Make most of the model red or green and do a few details like just the chapter badge in the other color. Mixing with black, brown, or grey works good too. Though it will make the model look more flat and dull unless you\'re an uberpainter.

Mixing with too much white will give you pink and pastel green, so unless they\'re Nurgle Marines I wouldn\'t recommend that!

Here are a few of mine where I use mostly reds with a few details in green:

I think the main reason he looks so Christmassy is the cream and gold and patterny-ness - he\'s got a wrapping paper thing going on. Someone\'s already told me he\'s the knight of christmas. I maintain that Xmas stole my colour scheme :)

A mostly green with red piping or vice versa model would probably avoid that look too, or avoiding having both colours at the same value (or whatever the technical term is) - maybe one is more muted than the other, or darker than the other. But staying away from the secondary holiday season colours of cream and gold are probably going to help a lot.

In my opinion going more red with green trim would look better. Too much green and it looks like a tree waiting for ornaments IMO.

For Space Marines you could do something even like red legs and torso with green arms and head with white or gold/bronze trim. Just ideas....

I actually did a Mantis Warrior chapter...
Dark Green with red for the knee pads and Shoulder Greaves...
Except for my veterans whose entire lower legs were blood red up to the knee pads...Traditionally the veterans were my assault squads and the fluff was that during the Horus Heresy they waded in blood up to their knees and painted them that way since.

However if you look at the squad fluff in the ultramarine codex, I believe red piping on the shoulder pads signifies 3rd Company.

Thanks a lot guys.

Those are all good examples. I have begun experimenting with the colors on the Space Marines. I tried a really deep red, but it ended up looking a little too brown. Then I tried a bright red and it worked ok. I did the wings on the chest in Dark Angels Green with subtle highlights. I haven\'t decided if I like it yet.

Thanks again for the ideas.

seems to me...

It seems to me that to avoid the \"christmassy\" feel, you just need to dominate one of the two colors.

A red mini with green accents or vice versa.

It seems when there are equal parts of each is when my little head starts humming christmas carols.

Also, obviously, the shade or tone of the the colors work largely into the equation. Bright red and bright green almost invariably have me hanging stockings and lights.

Good luck Barkel, please share your results.:D

Another trick...

Use lots of black with the red and green instead of white. My orcs are mostly green, red, and black, with my savage orcs green, red and brown instead. None of then look really christmassy.
