Any thoughts/comments on something like this?

Various newsletters etc find their way into my e-mail box each week/month but this one in particular caught my eye from a model dealer that I tend to use from time to time.
Reason it caught my eye was because on a list of their latest stock was a sonic bath, yep you read correctly. Here is the link: Sonic Bath

Advertised as an airbrush cleaner but I can already think of a lot of other uses for this little beastie.

Thoughts/comments welcome or please discuss

garauntee that it will use more airbrush cleaner and take longer than by doing it all yourself.

these sort od things were first targeted at people for cleaning jewelry etc.

not for me.

I wasn\'t thinking of using it for airbrush cleaning

Wonder what it would do for cleaning a mini though in way of getting that paint out of hard to get at places after stripping it with detol.

It\'s a shame you can\'t use solvents in it. It sounds like it would have been good at stripping minis.

acutally ultrasonic cleaning is the best way to clean something. Its often used in hospitals and laboratories to get your things REALLY Clean. But if its really useful concering minis...dunno.

For cleaning your airbrush it could be great, but I would never buy such equipment without having a look at it in real and test all the buttons and mechanics.

You could always talk to one of the dentists on ship and see what he says about using one -

We don\'t even carry a Doc onboard unless we are deploying and only the Carriers take a dentist with them.

I have seen/used ultrasonic oil baths before when cleaning machine/cutting tools and engine injectors etc not sure if this would get the same results.

Saying that my sonic tooth brush does a good job on my teeth lol

A good ultrasonic can do wonders on a dirty old airbrush or things like jewelry, but I\'ve actually seen this model and to be honest you would get better cleaning by swishing your parts about in a cup full of thinner.

When I was in college we had one that would clean like a wonder, but it cost about a $1000.00

Thats what I was thinking, it seemed far too cheap compared to the cost of comercial ones to be able to do a decent job of anything other than a bit of grease.

Sweet monkee of jebus. Even the Jarheads had dentists most places in Iraq. And if I remember correctly most USN ships down to Destroyer sized have dentists on board. And I know the USN is a hell of a lot bigger than the RN.

Yes but you are now looking at the UK Roay Navy that the way it is going will soon be losing the Royal in order to make the penny pinchers cost cuts. Every year we pay off ships and they do not get replaced, contracts for new ones are put in place and then cut out of a planned dozen of the new Type 45\'s we are now only getting 6 and the new carrier that is being talked about was going to be for 2 and we probably will only get 1 and that has been shortened in lengh.
All the present Harriers we use on the CVS are RAF ones and out of the 3 CVS one is de-commissioned and kept in dock the other two do more amphibious support than they do carrier work.

A few years ago we had more admirals than we had ships and submarines and now we could probably put two of them on each ship/sub, we are a pyramid that is placed on its point when t comes to officers and on the bones of our @rses when it comes to people with skills. Hell we even pay the Padres double my wage just for bothering god on a daily basis.

The same thing is happening here, were in the middle of a long going stupid war and they are trying to trim the military. Yet countries like china and russia are growing their militaries leaps and bounds in the past decade.

It happens on a far to regular basis in history where the politicians would rather throw money at things like the Millenium Dome and a top heavy NHS system for spongers or think nothing of paying £17,000 for a new bathroom in their London apartment every year or two because they can claim it on expenses and laugh at the public whilst doing so.

Better get off this fence now I can feel it creeking and the splinters are getting very sharp

Back to the topic - if you want the GF has an appointment with our whackjob crazy dentist (I swear he\'s good, just a bit addled, but he was a USN dentist working with the Jarheads) next week, and I can have her ask him what kind of ultrasonic cleaner he uses, if any.
