Being a big fat guy, giving dieting advice seems a bit oxymoronic, but check out the Atkins (or any low carb-high protein type diet) I did very well on that diet, and lost a bunch of weight in a relatively short time.....Its a good diet to \'kick start\' yourself and its easy to stay on.

The problem is that after I went off of it, I went back to my old very bad eating habits, and gained all of that loss back (and then some).

Yeah, find out what your caloric intake is suppossed to be - for someone your height.

Then reduce that by like 500 calories a day (THAT MEANS KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU EAT).

Find a place you can do exercise - hate cardio? Find a gym with 4 different cardio machines and do each one for 10 minutes.
Run inthe woods - go hiking for a weekend and bring all non-fat foods (tuna) and you will SHED THE FAT.

once or twice a week do extra hard work and literally eat almost NO fat and reduce caloric intake by 700-1000 instead of the usual 500. That will be your POWER FAT BURN day

its a change in life style my friend - if you lose the weight from dieting and then stop dieting - you gain the weight.

there are a trillion online resources, GOOGLE them - but my advice above is simple and works.

then after you get to a nice spot you still need to exercise... find some killer circuit training or start rock climbing... its how I stay ripped like a foo foo movie star.

I lost 25 lbs in less then 2 months when I did a tuna and cottage cheese diet...also worked out.. no bread, no soda, few carbs..

No cheating. If you do, your blood sugar will go back up and you will get cravings and start eating junk again.

This diet works.. You will feel weak the first few days as the sugar drains your system.

6:00am Breakfast
Plain Oatmeal

10:00am 1 Furit as snack

Lunch.- A sandwich. Tuna with whole Wheat

Snack: Fruit or vegtables

Dinner: Small chicken with some vegtables

Before Bedtime: Cottage cheese.. about 1/2 cup..with some fruit

Work out 2 hours a day.. and this works.. I did this when I was single.. had not girlfriend feeding me. I went from 180 to 160-155.. dropped 3 pant sizes..had a sixpack..

I soon after met my girlfriend. Im now 175.

BTW..my diet was a hardcore version of Atkins that supervike mentioned..

HARDEST HARDCORE DIET??? 1 Can of tuna a day for about 5 months... Go see what Christian Bale looked like after that diet in the movie \"The Machinist.\"

One more edit!! Whatever diet you go on, DRINK ALOT OF WATER! If you can do about 1 Gallon a day you are the man.

I \'peaked\' at 300 lbs . The doc almost guarenteed me that if I did\'nt get some of that fat off I was going to get diabetes. I needed that strong of inspiration to get me moving.

What he said, and this sounds patronisingly simple, is that if you\'re overweight then you are eating too much.

What I did was to stop eating meals. When I felt hungry I would take 1 moderate bite of food and this was the real \'trick\' - I waited. It took about 10-15 minuets for the food to hit my bloodstream and then the hunger would go away for about 1 hour. After a while I noticed a pattern of time and could eat just before the hunger hit and didnt have to endure the hunger pangs as much. My intake went down by about 1/2.....I simply did\'nt NEED as much. This is a closer way to gauge what is needed as opposed to wanted.

We tend to eat till we feel full but what I think it is is that we eat till our blood stream starts to absorb the food THEN we feel full. The first bite is what we FEEL. All the eating between starting and feeling full is excess.

Dont know where you live but here in the States what is considered a normal amount for a meal is, litterally, about 3-4 times what I need.

Often when I feel hungry I\'m actually thirsty.

I LOVE walking. I had to SLOWLY work up to this but I put on about 3 miles a day and some days up to 6.

Minus about 60 lbs and counting!! Went from size 42 pants to 36\'s.

One thing I have had to do is to really get it solid in my mind that this isnt a \'diet\'. This is how I will have to approach food for the rest of my life.

Kill the Junk food

I gained a bunch of wait by eating fast food everyday, Buger king Taco Bell and the like.

I dropped that and started to do 30 mins of cardio about 4 times a week. Lost a bunch of wait and have kept it off.

Just watch what you eat, cut down on the soda, juncky snaks and the like.

Sports

So hypocritical but here goes...
sport is good. a wide variety of different activities can do wonders for you. walk, ride bikes, swimming, walking the dog, basketball, anything at all.
i\'ve found that trying to swim for 2 hours and only doing that all day will last about a week and you will lose interest. therefore:
30mins riding,
30mins walking, (but its best if you take a companion or a dog, because otherwise you will lose motivation)
30mins playing frisbee
30mins swimming

or somethign like that. and trust me when i say that a partner is totally important for exercise. if you don\'t have one you will lose motivation and stop.

hope that you can lose some weight dude.

Here\'s what I did....

I went from 330 to 220, and I\'m still dropping. This took about a year, so far.

1: Food intake: Good advice given above, but I have a totally different philosophy.
Eat what you want. In MODERATION.
Do not gorge yourself at the trough of freedom.

2: Get off your bum. Do stuff. School does not encourage activity, except for gym
class. Our hobby does not encourage great amounts of activity.

It\'s true. Painting while jogging will bring your ratings down... and don\'t get me
started on how hard it is to take a mini picture on a bicycle....

3: Get a job moving furniture. :) Yeah... manual labour for a living will beat the
heck out of any gym.

I went from a desk job to a manual labour job, and I\'m fast approaching the fitness
level I had in high school.

Now, if I could just quit smoking....

Since everybody is giving good advice, figure someone has to give the smart ass response:

Get some guy, 6\' 5\" and muscled, and pay him to follow you around. Every time you try to eat something not good for you, he hits you. Hard.

Somebody had to do it. lol

Don\'t diet. Dieting is bad because you\'re looking for a short-term fix for a long-term \"problem\". To put it simply, you have developed certain eating and lifestyle habits over the years and the only way that you will lose fat is change those habits.

The way to lose fat is to slowly adjust and change your eating and life style habits. Start cutting back on the \"bad foods\" (fast food, saturated fats, etc) and start eating the \"good\" foods (whole grains, veggies, fruit, etc). You don\'t have to cut out the \"bad\" foods completely right away; in fact, that\'s a bad way to do it because your body really, really wants those things. Just slowly reduce them from your eating habits and routines until they\'re pretty much gone.

If you want to try watching your calories, use this formula:

Take your body weight and multiply it by 10 - 12 (your choice). That\'s the total amount of calories you should be consuming per day for weight loss.

Start doing some kind of exercise. You could start with simply walking around the block and try to increase the distance just a little each day. You could try bike riding or swimming. Lifting weights (if you do this one, please use caution!) is a great way to exercise.

You can lose weight (and drastically), but there are severe health risks to doing that and a pretty good chance that you\'ll put the weight right back on (plus interest) - much like Vike said.

The best way to lose fat and keep it off is to just start changing your habits. It\'ll take time, but there aren\'t any \"quick fixes\" when it comes to your health.

Also, if you\'re trying to change these habits and you happen to \"slip\" (i.e. you go to Burger Kind and order the Ultimate Double Whopper), don\'t beat yourself up about it. Just realize that these things will happen occasionally and remind yourself to keep trying.

And complaining about the rough sheets chafing when you finally get locked up for DUI. However, I hear meth will do it faster. Only problem is that you turn into a skeleton and join the undead.

I\'ve been studying sports nutrition in my own time for the past 3 years so I can possibly give you some advice.

First cut your carbohydrate intake down significantly (drop any sugars, sodas, etc immediately from your diet).

You should also consume a decent amount of dietary fats. People thinks fats are bad.. they are wrong. Trans fats yes, but other fats can improve health and aid weight loss. Such fats include olive oil, fish oils, flax seeds, fat in nuts.

Drink water, lots of it. Aim to increase your metabolism. Firstly try and eat around 5-6 small meals a day.. Every meal should include a lean protein (chicken, no skin. Tuna, fish, low fat cheeses, etc).

Add exercise.. running everyday for an hour is a waste of time. Instead, hit the gym.. give the body a reason to hang onto your muscle tissue instead of burning it for energy. Let your body burn the fat instead.

These are pretty much the basics.

As other people have stated. Getting in shape and staying there is not about the diet but more your focus on changing your lifestyle.

And if you need proof. I went from 120kg to 66kg over a 3 year period. I can bench well over 100kg, deadlift 3 times my body weight and run for hours without getting winded.

So there\'s your motivation since if I can do it, anyone can.

It\'s a load of bollocks to say \"If you\'re overweight , you\'re eating too much\".
It depends higly on What you eat and your bodys metabolism.
Make sure you eat a balanced diet and cut out high fat foods. Check out the RDAs (Recommended daily allowances), and go to a gym to help burn off excess with cardio excersises (ie; rowing machine, running etc etc).
That should be a step in the right direction.

Sorry to buck the eating trend, and as \'Vike said, I\'m not \'fit\' to give advice, but.....

Do something, often, that keeps you physically active. If possible do it in a situation where you have little choice not to do it. AKA get a job that causes you to exercise or lose the weight. If you have enough discipline you could probably skip the job and just work out.

Okay I was at like 280 or so, started this brand new job that had me moving auto parts. After the first day I almost called in sick I hurt so much, but I stuck it out. After the first week I almost quit and did the math. I was moving half a ton of auto parts by hand every shift, 2 shifts a day. So a ton of metal moved through my hands. I stuck it out, I needed the job. Then my friends started commenting on Saturday nights about how much better I looked, how I would stay on the dance floor longer, how I would be willing to stay up later, heck even the women though I could last longer. So I kept it up, eventually I went from a size 42 down to a 38 which isn\'t much, but the biggest change, was in build. I now had Pects, I had Tricepts for the first time. I was still big enough you couldn\'t see my abs but you could feel them.

Now here\'s the human part where I feel like a lard:

After about 7 months of this I was still in a size 38 but I looked damn good (well at least damn better) and for doing such a great job, they offered me an salaried office job, which I promptly took. Within 4 years I\'m quickly nearing that 280 mark again, and this time due to age and sag I\'m up to a 44 pants.

Now the imporant part, the moral if you will (ignoring the obvious don\'t get an office job and spend your days on your ass) is that diet had nothing to do with any of this. I still ate like hell. Pizza twice a week with \"Double Cheeze Peperoni, Bacon, Sausage and Ground Beef\", Lazagna, Peroghi, Pop only beverage diet, Bagles with Creem cheese for breakfast, etc. I never once changed my diet, what caused me to loose all that weight and put on all that muscle was physical activity.

Okay that ended up longer then it should have, but I think you get the point. Diet helps (or so I have been told), but activity makes a HUGE difference.

Bicycle and football...and a respect for the food you eat. Take your time eating, like an European might. Enjoy it, and watch how you get far more satisfaction, as long as it\'s good food.

Take a cooking course and get to know food. Brill!
