I haven't see it yet. Just trying to get opinions as to weather it's worth it and if the 3D works better than the other 3D movie's of late. I found the 3D to be inconsistant and shallow.
Anyone seen the new Tron?

In 2 minds about this, wasn't 100% super enthusiastic about the original.
As for 3D, I've found that I need to sit centre at the back in order to get it to work for me.
Having said that the 3D in "How to Train your Dragon" was best during the final chase where the Nidwyrm was chasing Hiccup.

The wife and I watched Tron: Legacy in 2D format on Saturday. It was enjoyable, but I'm not going to be pushing it for an Oscar. Good musical score (the Daft Punk pieces really shine through) and the action sequences are pretty enjoyable. There's some...awkward dialogue on occasion. "Son of a gun" comes to mind and made me cringe, but Bridges kind of channels his Big Liebowski for a few moments and that made up for the awkward bits.
The digital effects on Bridges to make him look 30ish again are...well digital effects. Anyone can really tell that it doesn't quite look real. (notably in the upper lip and the corners of his eyes) Some people I talked to thought it was a bit distracting, but it only gave me a second's pause.
Olivia Wilde with that haircut...nice.
Overall: Worth the matinee price.

It's an enjoyable romp as long as you don't place any expectations on it. The CGI is OK, not fantastic, but for me it was all about the nostalgic value 
. The 3D wasn't great, again, but it did have some nice eyepopping scenes, notably the lightcycle arena and a few of the cityscape (Grid City) shots.

I made sure to watch the original first, which I think really helped me better understand what was going on in the new one. I liked it a lot. The CGI didn't bother me too much. I thought it was pretty effective. Worth the matinee price for sure. 3D movies give me headaches so I just saw the regular version.

Nailed it right there. Hollywood still can't claim to have conquered the Uncanny Valley problem. I too noticed the upper lip and eyes thing, I'll forgive it thought because of the Lightcycle scene (wow, way to "update" it!) and of course Quorra and Gem...
This was my first 3D movie and after it went 3D (in the grid) it took a few minutes to get past the wow factor and settle in. Half way through the movie I kinda forgot it was in 3D and it just felt like it was more naturally immersive and not just "Wow!~ 3D for the sake of 3D - I'm coming right at your face!!!!!". They did really well in balancing things like focal point shifting and depth cues that felt real and not exaggerated.
As it seems to be shaping up around here, nice movie if you don't go in expecting Oscar work. Effects are great, acting, all right, story - stilted at times but easy to ignore for the eye candy.
