Anyone tried swappable arms?

OK, me being a rather tight git at times, i decided certain parts of my slowly-developing Space Marines army should be as adaptable as possible. Tanks are easy, since replacable turrets aren\'t exactly rocket science.
But i decided i wanted to go a little further, and do swappable arms on many individual models, notably Terminators and command squad members. I\'m not suggesting two-armed weapons, since that\'s silly (i\'ll do them later :D), but i was wondering if anyone had tried this before and could give me some hints.
I guess a little more info might be useful:
This\'ll only (for a while, anyway) apply to plastic models.
Shoulder pads should not be part of the exchangeable arm. This is the bit that\'s given me trouble. Otherwise it would\'ve been a couple of pieces of micro rod and some pin-vice holes, but all i can think of now is a sandwich of shoulder pad, arm and body, which i can\'t entirely work out how to accomplish.
So yeah. If you\'ve tried this before or have an idea, drop a reply.

Hmm. Certainly worth thought. But before i go into much perusal of the workings, i don\'t suppose you\'ve ever seen it done before?

What\'s silly about that? I\'m currently painting a SM with power halbard and have one in the assembly stages with a chain spear.

The magnets sounds a great idea to me. I guess you want to keep the shoulders on the bodies so as not to have to redo all the heraldry. Only other thing I can think of is blu-tac/quake-hold or the like.

@spacemunkie
Magnets are teh cool on tanks, especially for armour, which i hadn\'t thought of before (yoink!).
Problem is that if shoulder pads aren\'t part of the arms (the thinking went that you only get exactly the right number of pads, at least for terminators), that\'s dealing with many magnets in one guy, and rather hard to insert them in the pads themselves. I think this is just me complicating matters.
In any case, i\'d be interested how those terminators go, looking forward to seeing them.
After i get this tac squad painted (relearning to paint, and to a better standard than when i was younger, is, ahem, -interesting-), considering the new scouts won\'t be out (are they plastic? i miss out on all the good news these days), a commander or something will be my next acquisition. And i\'ll have fun.
My current thinking is towards two pieces of rod (to avoid swivelling) pushed thru holes in the pads, arm and torso, but only actually fixed to the pads.
Gah. I plan a lot for someone who may be sacrificing valuable food money to pay for this...

[and for my next trick i demand a -fully- posable 35mm marine...]

Oh, and @vincegamer: yeah, but are they replacable?
Ah, those innocent lost days of chainspears. How i miss them...

A guy in ourgaming group did it with ogres. He used blue tac and pins. Ive also seen it where the hands had a screw imbedded and a nut in the wrist but that was ogres as well. Not sure if you would have that kind of room on a space marine.

Hm... Magnets seem a good idea overall, but since they are kind of costly, and you have to work with small stuff (shoulder pad-like), I\'d go for the pins; preferably the two-pins-on-pad through arm and body variant. OR, if you only plan on making one arm exchangeable (I guess that would make sense for regular ogre bulls, too), insert a tiny magnet on the other side (through the shoulder into the torso). Then pin the other arm in place like above, but make the pins a bit longer. With the right metal for the pins, the magnet on the opposite side should hold the pins a bit, so it wouldn\'t fall out back again so easily... ???

I\'ve seen it done with magnets. I don;t play so I don\'t know the correct terminology but the little wee blue fellow had exchangeable arms and a removable jet pack type thing.

Beyond going \"that\'s neat\" I didn\'t enquire further, so I\'m of no real help to you.
