AOL and the new GW website

Ever since GW updated their UK website I have had problems using it on my home PC which has AOL installed. Whenever I try to access the website it either takes an absolute age to load each page ( we\'re talking several minutes here!!), or more often it just crashes AOL and I have to sign off.

I can access the site at work where the computers use Mozilla. So is this just confined to AOL or is it my computer that has developed a dislike to the new website?

im no internet expert but i presume its down to them integrating that uk site into the .com one so instead of just the Uk stuff to go through it has the content for the whole world as well

No it\'s not the browser, whatever variant you use.
It\'s a badly designed, slow, clumsy and overloaded site not designed for anyone with a slow (ie dial-up, not high end broadband) connection.
It\'s that bad it keeps locking up the store connections, which is really embarrasing for the staff.
Even Forgeworld\'s site is faster now. lol

For my sins I\'m a web monkey by trade and though I understand completely what GW has tried to do with their site the execution of it is very poor. The javascript part of the site just doesn\'t hang together right and coupled with the heavy graphical aspect of the site the performance is shocking - regardless of the spec computer you\'re using.

My other critism is the sheer amount of fluff and articles that no longer exist :(

aol own the talk talk brand now i think

the car phone warehouse own talk talk and AOL UK (and service has become dire since they bought it and moved everything onto their own servers)

broadband in general is becoming a joke in the UK, with everyone paying for speeds they don\'t recieve and then having that down graded speed down graded even further of an evening when more people are trying to use it.

15 minutes to open the front page to look for something.
That\'s on 11Mb broadband at 06:30 this morning.
Needless to say I didn\'t actually find what I was looking for.
Another classic example of someone not only shooting themselves in the foot but using a \'Scope to do it.

gave up after four minutes, now i remember why i haven\'t tried to visit their site since the \"upgrade.\"

that must be losing them so much business.

I\'m in the US, but I haven\'t noticed any problems here. The connection in our FLGS is slow, and it still loads up in about 5 secs/request there. Could this be an infrastructure problem in the UK?

Oh, and the lack of fluff really does suck. Their terrain articles are all gone!

I preferred the old website as well. The lack of fluff is unforgivable. I don\'t play the 40kgame, I just paint the minis and it was useful having various pics and articles on the website for reference and inspiration. All gone now:cussing:

Strangely enough I can visit the GW Oz site with no problems, they still have the original format but not as much fluff. Still at the moment its better than nothing.
