A bit of an open letter this... I have been meaning to write it for some time but never had the bottle.
A number of years ago, many artists... brokenblade, alexi z, haley, mrika, fluffy, razza and astonia... some of the nicest people I have ever spoken to, gave their creativity and time to paint minis for me. They created beautiful and tiny works of art and I want to apologise for selling their minis on.
I'm not sure even how they feel but I feel bad about it.
I'm not sure what public reason I gave when I put them for sale at the time but in 2011-2012, my mother was dying of stomach cancer and I was driving to mid-wales to see her and my father every weekend and I couldn't afford the fuel without selling stuff. After selling many other things, all I had left to sell was miniatures. My mother passed away on the 2nd of August 2012 and on the 12th of August Elle's father also passed away due to lung cancer.
Both dealing with it all while raising a 2 year-old son that nobody would diagnose with asthma was tough and I have no idea how we got through it.
I guess I was too afraid to say anything at the time to the kind people who painted minis for me, people who were turning down commissions for others. Pride I guess.
Anyway, I'm saying it now. Sorry everyone. I still regularly look at the photos of the incredible work you did and smile. I never thought of the minis you painted as some sort of commodity or even as possessions. I wanted to just be a custodian of them.
And for anyone who ever paints a mini for me in the future, I'll do better!
- Joe.
