Applying transfers/decals

Hi everyone,

I tried to apply some transfers to my Space Marine shoulderpads, but they always come off and never go and keep on totally flat. On flat parts, like tanks I have no problems, but each part with a curve in it, especially the should pads, are a hell.

It\'s always like this:

*red is the transfer*

I tried to hold it flat with some papertowel, but it only makes the \'standing part\' turn to a different side.

So, what could I do? Freehand is not really an option, and I don\'t want to buy lots and lots of the brass parts from Forgeworld...

find some \'solva-set\' or \'decal set\'
seems to soften the decal and let it lay down better.

put your decals in the water (after cutting them out)
put microsol onto the area where your transfer will go.
put decal in place
dry and apply more microsol.
once dry apply mor microsol if the decal hasn\'t become one with the surface fully.

dead easy.

what ^^ he said, \'cept apply glosscoat to area to be given the decal. Gloss finishes remove tiny air-bubbles that can form on matte or flat finishes. once the decal is set per instructions above, hit the model with some dull or matte varnish.

So, brush on gloss varnish, wait to dry, then add decals per above, then varnish with matte or dull.

i only used decals once or twice for GW, but i agree they don\'t like stickign to matte surfaces. they prefer the glossy surface.

i would further suggest avoiding the decals like the plague. they just don\'t look good if not perfectly done.

but make sure you have the iconography cut close before you allpy it so there isnt much space around it to show later.

I had that problem just recently but was able to fix it.

I was going to say use Badger\'s Decal Setting Solution...but the wise way is USE VINEGAR! See my thread on Decal Setting Solution from a few days ago.

(1) Paint some vinegar on the shoulder pad.
(2) Slide the decal on the shoulder pad and the paint more vinegar on top.
(3) Wait about a minute and press the decal down with a paper towel
(4) Brush the dried decal with thick dullcoat.
