Aragorn (54mm) WIP

Hi, I\'m currently painting this Arago..I mean The untamed mini.

Now I tried to mix my own skintone, because skintone like dwarf flesh is maybe too fantsy like for \"historical\" mini. Though Aragorn is fantasy character, I wanted to create something more realistic than I usually do.

I\'m happy about he outcome so far, however that leather jacket is a bit shiny, or that can be seen on certain lightning. Maybe it is because of Vallejo GC paint, I don\'t know. But then again it\'s leather . Green coat is painted with VMC US dark green.

So far that looks pretty darned fantastic. The head and face are just about perfect and bear an uncanny resemblance to a certein film character... can\'t quite place it

Not sure if you\'ve done much on the hand but from this pick there doesn\'t seem to be much definition between the fingers.

No, the hand is not done yet. I planned to paint hands later.

Again, not sure if you have got there yet, but the neck/throat area is lacking definition a little.

Dwarf flesh (and basically any pre-mixed flesh colour) is too \"fantasy\" even for fantasy miniatures IMO. I never use flesh tones straight from the bottle. There aren\'t any, that I\'m aware of, that looks natural.

You seem to have done well with your mix here, though. I\'m interested to see where this is going!

Im interested in what you add/use to improve on these colours for flesh?

add green to dwarf flesh to get rid of the pink and give a more natural tone.

reds, browns etc can be added into flesh colours.

glazes can be used to change the tones and depth as well.

any colour can be used, just try things out.

blues and purples are great as well.

Catachan Green mixes well with most Citadel flesh colors to tone them down a bit. That\'s what I\'ve been using lately.

I have a pot of pre-mixed 1:1 Dwarf Flesh to Elf Flesh that I base most of my skintones around, with different colors for shading (depending on the style I want) and usually White or Bone for hilights.

Yeah using the Citadel or other fleshtones straight out of the pot is just incredibly cartoonish, that look has its purpose for sure but I\'m a lot happier now that I\'ve moved away from that a bit.

not sure if it\'s the shading on the cheeks or the sculpt. But he looks like he\'s pouting in a homosexual fashion.

I never use dwarf flesh at all, because I find it much too pink. I use Dark Flesh and Elf flesh and mix a bit of VMC Azure in it to get rid of the peachy colour. For shadows I mix a bit of dark green into Dark Flesh or some dark red or brown usually. It depends a bit on what finish I\'m after.
