YYes it does hut again you can play with it sometimes I don't line I'll just put a dab of silver inside those Lil puddle shapes that the sponge pattern left after you dab it this will show that a green enable chipped off leaving silver the original alloy underneath,you see.look at all my works in my gallery and even early on in my w I p my orks can show you how I beat up metal.any questions just lemme know and I'll hit you back asap.I usually put it underneath to show light catching.

Vallejo's German Camo black brown is excellent for chipping. Normall you put the highlight just under the "chip" if the light is comming from above; There was just a new video posted on Painting Budah about painting NMM and it also shows very good ways to chip TMM.

Quick update

Just a quick update, to quote myself from a few posts back chatting to Maenas:

The little Malifaux mini, Wong, that I started this WIP with is on hold at the moment. It may sound certifiable, but I like to have a feel for the character I'm painting and I often end up creating little stories in my head for them. He's an absolutely delightful mini, but I'm just not feeling that connection. I don't want to ruin him, so I've put him to one side until he's ready to chat.

It's the way I work. But the good news is that I picked up some Malifaux, Warmachine and Hordes minis on sale from a local shop that's doing a stock clearance. I'm really excited about a couple of them.

So work on the bust continues in between assignments (I'm studying full time at the moment) and I'll be cleaning up some of my new minis in between as well.

I've actually gone back to university - so returning to studying after a break of about 7 years has been interesting. I'm doing a degree in English and Creative Writing this time around and really enjoying it so far.

Awesome - you're making my WIP look more impressive than it actually is ;P. Seriously, that's pretty cool. Shiny paintjobs always make me happy.

You and I are definitely going to have to have a chat about how to paint gore and blood at some point BAM.

In other news: I finished the assignment I was working on! :victory: Sadly that means that I'm only sitting down to paint for the first time this weekend now. But balance is important in life (I need to remind myself of that sometimes).

I'm not too worried about scores - it's more about improving for myself. Although I would be lying if I didn't admit that it's a really nice feeling when someone appreciates/likes what you've done.

LOL. Yup, it's my name in fact. It's a welsh/irish variation on the more common "Sheila" and is pronounced "She-la".

Help! Finger oils interfering with paint.

Sending out a help request to all of you.

Normally I have my miniatures attached to a bottle while I paint, but the She Warrior bust is so big that I've been forced to handle it while I paint. I've noticed that the paint is not adhering evenly on areas where I commonly hold her. I assume that the oils from my hands have built up and are interfering with the paint. How can I fix this?

The ideas I have are:
1) wash her gently in some lukewarm soapy water and pray that not all of the paint comes off
2) paint the areas affected with a varnish to try and seal them before carrying on

Any advice would be VERY appreciated.

I'd choose no 2.
With the extras:
- pin it to a 1.5-2mm brass rod and hold it there
- if you mean the skin... it may not be your hand that's the cause, but the too many thin layered additives/paint you use and the paint itself throws off the next layers. (the varnish helps in this more or less)

aaand normally you can wash it too (altough I don't think it will help, it might, but I don't think so). Acryl once sets is not affected by water anymore, so you shouldn't have a problem with that. Just don't be rough on it, so no metal brushes .

Thanks Max *hugs for your help*. It's not the skin areas - it's the armour on her arms where I was holding her to keep my fingers off the skin areas. I have a spray varnish or artist quality paint on varnishes. Would either one be better?

If using the spray on varnish, test on something else first, you don't want gone off varnish on all your hard work

I'm going to try the soap and water approach first I think.

So I decided to varnish her rather in the end. I used some of the spray varnish I use to seal minis once they're done. She's busy drying and then I'll see if that's helped any.

Keep those thumbs held!
