I believe that they've discontinued this particular version which is a pity because it's a great sculpt. It needed a little bit of green stuff work, but nothing outrageous.

Yes, all their old metals have been discontinued, and everything is plastic these days. Not all a bad thing, the plastics are generally better than the metals! You can still get hold of many of the avatars, though.

Great work so far!!! Malifaux have amazing and original kits. I think you'll have heaps of fun painting them.

What GW burnout? Not a real thing. But if it was we've all been there ;) Nice start, strong & confident. Great palette too.

I'm glad you all approve so far. :)

Today was spent adding extra layers of the green-blue to get a nice even cover. I decided that multiple thin layers were the way to go.

Tomorrow should see some experimenting with swirling and blending colours.

Yeah GW burnout is real.
Its not that the models aren't good it's just when the gouging prices, rampant force feeding and limited viewpoint oversaturate you that it happens.

Hiya, looking good so far. I love seeing the Malifaux stuff people paint, they are incredibly fun on the whole. They are the range I've gotten into since basically leaving GW behind.
Can't wait to see you continue with this piece.

Hi Sigmar3 - nice if you to stop by. :)

There's no way I can leave GW behind for good. Here in South Africa they're the models that are most widely available. The one store in the area that stocked anything else has unfortunately gone out of business - which meant that I picked up this model and a couple of others at a good price, but no newer stock will be coming in. I'm trying to convince one of my local stores to broaden their suppliers, but obviously it's linked to what the wargamers are playing and buying. Not just what one enthusiastic painter would like.

HHonesty shel look at all the major artists most of them tend to paint other models from other companies.1)because there are sooo many beautiful models out there that aren't GW for example...but because let's face it a marine shoulder pad is the same for all marines in the GW range and an elven cloak is the same for an eldar is the same for a chaos or empire wizard cloak....my point is not only do you get a different and fresh approach to a totally new project from a diff miniature co. But you get better to as the cloaks from a malifaux figure are very different fromm that of other co....so again I'll say it 1) pick as many diff models from all over and as many diversified models you can from different co. And the more that these things pass through your hand the more your passion will stay fresh and the better your skillset will evolve...great model.Google it and type in showcase after the models name or "pinterest" it...and you'll see many diff versions of it .this will give you ideas on how to and what direction to paint ..as a general rule it's base colrs and 2 shades and 2 highlights not counting a black and last shade mix for deepest colors and white or beige with a last highlight mix for the tippy top parts ....so it's a 5-7 color tones that are blended and layered on....5 hmmm. Like the 5 color use for the "STEP SIGN RULE" THEORY.;)

I've had a really productive painting evening. In fact, so productive that it's almost sunrise. *yawn*

I've just started neatening up the bricks again. They need more work.

Then it's on to Lord Chompy Bits. Any suggestions for colours for him? I'm thinking grey-purple because I don't want him to be too bright and cartoony.

I have seen him painted in grey-purple and it works pretty well. That said, you can desaturate anything on the color wheel so whatever you decide to use as your primary paint, you can still avoid bright and cartoony.

Drop some darker tones on random bricks, using blues and Browns mixed into you base colour that will help take away the 'sameness' and give a touch of reality to the backdrop.

@Dragonsreach - That's the plan! Just having to neaten them up after doing the portal itself. And then they'll be getting more work on shading etc.
