Are eyes needed in smaller than 25mm figs?

My rule has always been that if the eyes are sculpted in then they should be painted.

In 15\'s this means (usually) Essex, but not Peter Pig, Minifigs, or Old Glory rank & file (mostly shakos and caps obscure the eyes so there is no sculpt there)

But if the eyes are there and there is a clear almond shape there then I do it regardless. I know nobody personally who does this but me . . . most people are so hot to game that they whip out that:
\"Well a figure at 15mm reperesents a man standing at X yards away and at that distance the eyes would not be particularly discernible so don\'t bother\"

Is speed is your prime concern than you could leave them out, but I think the figs are all the more valuable if all the parts are painted appropriately.

Define \"needed\". Are theygood enough without? I think so, doubt anyone will look that close.

Along with other ranges i paint Essex mini\'s. These are 15mm napoleonic russian. So far if i can make out an socket i have painted it. Iv\'e had a bit off p*$% taking from a few of my mates, but if i didn\'t do the eyes I wouldn\'t be happy with them. It all personal preference really.

I agree with some of the earlier comments if the eyes are there then paint them if not then I tend to put a black dot in the place the eyes should be unless they are covered by a hat or helmet.

Sad as it may seem I have always done this even on the 10mm warmaster figures for my armies the Orcs and Goblins will have yellow or orange eyes with a dot where possible and my Ogres (ID: 22116) have red eyes with a yellow dot although you may not see them very well in the photo without enlarging it in another program.

I have always done this being a gamer as well as a painter/collector I believe that if you are going to spend the time painting them you might as well go the whole hog otherwise I feel that a) I haven\'t done the figure any justice let alone the sculpture that took the time in the first place and b) I wouldn\'t be happy with myself knowing that I could have done it even for rank and file troops.:)

WOW!!
10mm minis\' eyes  . I already have trouble painting them on my regular 25mm minis. Well anyway I don\'t think you need to paint them, some people don\'t paint the eyes on the 25mm minis and they look pretty good so I guesse that on 15mm it would look more than ok.

If you can do em, do em!

Sure, why not? I fthe model has the detail, then it is worth having a go. Even simple black dots would work nice... On my warmaster command group, I even tried whites but the camera doesn\'t always react in a friendly manner with 10mm figures ;D

I dunno. I have more pics on my site as well, but whether or not you can see better is a different story :p

Try as hard as I can...

well, you can only try. It really depends on the sculpt and how particular you are and what is that mini used for.

Good sculpted mini have very good defined eyes (sad to say, GW mini eyes is terrible) with proper iris defined and the pupil protruding slightly above the iris. When conditions are right (sometimes I use the knife to cut it myself), I will paint the works. Otherwise, what the heck, the pupil is all it needs (dwarf have very small eyes. Nearly impossible to fit everything in)

Moreover, if that mini is meant for tabletop gaming, imo, don\'t bother (can\'t imagine doing that for 20 minis in a regiment). Otherwise, go for it.
