Collectable minis:

Kinda like collectable anything else. Some will be worth 10x what you paid, others will be worht 1/10th what you paid. Real secret is in knowing which is what....

Do an ebay on chicken dragons ($$$$)
Some stuff = great money. Other bulk sell to get it off the shelf...

Usually they are not worth much. I know, as I have a HUGE collection of RT-era Marines and Orks. Though I have spent a decent amount on it all, it is nowhere near as much as if I had bought new minis. I usually won\'t pay more than $5 for an old mini. There are exceptions, as I\'ve purchased old Squats (which usually get a fair price) and a few classic blisters for over $10 a piece.

Again, if it is in a blister, then yes, it is valuable. Otherwise, probably not.

Unfortunately no, not in general at least, if they were I might have been rich. I find really old ones like the Eternal Champion Boxed set, or say Dwarf Lords of Legends are worth money. Older then that the sculpts are so bad people don\'t generally want them. Newer then that the sculpts are such a different style (GW had a great sense of humor back then) then the newer stuff that they are generally not wanted either.

Though in reality a lot of my old stuff is worth about 3-5 times as much as the original price, but thats only becuse you used to be able to buy a pack of minis for $1.50.

I would actually think that if they are being sold as collectors items, painted would make them worth less. At least to a collector.

Older Classic, Rare or truely Out Of Production GW figures that have been painted by a \"Well Know Painter\" or a Golden Deamon winner will possibly achieve higher values but given the global economy situation and the downturn of sales through Ebay lately the chances of reaping a large cash reward are slim.
A relatively unknown painter, or \"Pro-Painter\" ( lol ) may only receive what the buyer is willing to risk bidding.
And as someone who has hunted bargains on Ebay I can state that for some of the \"Pro-Painted\" stuff I\'ve seen I would be bidding peanuts.

What Mike Said.

Old minis are worthless
Old limited or rare minis can be worth quite a bit
Old painted minis are worthless
Old minis \"pro-painted\" are worth little
Old minis painted really well are worth quite a bit.

caveat.

You might get lucky.
I sold some old lead as scrap on ebay a while back and got way more for it than it was worth. When I asked the bidder why she was willing to go so high, she said she noticed in the pile a piece identical to the first mini she\'d ever owned (long since lost) so she paid for sentimental value.

Out of production or old models are generally better clened up and stripped...

A Lot of ebay depends on the current trends .. Old Chaos characters for example have been going for slightly more than the curve a lately..

The market switches all the time but the ones generally paying more for the unpainted stuff currently are the painters that can make a profit from them ..overseas bidders are back with a vengeance after being missing for a while due to the exchange rate.

It\'s all a lottery but if you put pics it will help us help you..........

Don\'t expect a fortune but expect more than you\'ll get having them sat in your loft..:drunk:

There was a time when people payed silly money for old out of production minis.. but with today\'s economy you will see less of that.

as for painted being worth more..Yes if its painted by a top name painter whos won many awards and their work is in demand..No if its painted by just a run of the mill painter..nice or not.
