I have got into work tonight to be met with emails from **$%face managers telling me how to do my job (he is showing me how to suck eggs tomorrow). I may just be unlucky but I am yet to work for a manager who is any good they are all so far removed from the reality of what goes on in the real world (work) that they chase small detail which have no effect on the running of the place.
I am a little p!\"£ed off as you may have guessed and had to blow some steam. Sorry for wasting 30 seconds of your life on reading this but it made me feel better. Now breath in count to 10 (cool wet grass, cool wet grass) I think I am calming down now cheers James

They are out there. Unfortunately they are few and far between. I blame the emphasis on Process Oriented Systems (Six Sigma, ISO, etc) and MBA\'s. What neither of these things teach is leadership.

I find re-reading \"The Peter Principle\" can help. The gist is that people rise to their level of incompetence. Helps me keep perspective.

But there are some good ones out there, just don\'t count on them staying put.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

Good managers are, sadly, rare. Capriciousness, unspoken bias, passive-aggressive nature, unwillingness to implement suggestions from those doing the actual physical work, unreasonable expectations of working ethic (from people earning a fraction of what they\'re on) are all far too common IME.

My one staff told me that if I quit and went somewhere else, that I better tell them she was coming too.

Same with my boss.

His boss on the other hand......

I used to be a manger but got made \'redundant\'. My work ethic was to get on with the job with the team and not sit on my arse all day drinking coffee and reading magazines.
