I agree not to run immediately after eating, but when I recommended running after dinner, i meant before going to bed so that your metabolism will be able to process the food so you won\'t be sleeping on it. Many ppl make the mistake of starving themselves before running - they\'ll seriously run out of energy. And also, I\'m sure the benefits far outway the detriments to running in the long term - good for your heart and health in general - if you\'re worried about your joints, use better shoes and run with better posture.

If Jim Fixx is some guy who died of a heartattack while running, he should\'ve thought about his current health at the time and exercised according to that, rather than killing himself by doing more than his heart could take.

food takes more then a couple of hours to be processed into usable energie. Runing before sleeping will not help considering ou usually eat only a couple of hours before. The bes you can do to insure a good night sleep is to not eat anything with fast sugars.
And having a good heart in a cripled body dosn\'t do much for you. And that\'ll happen with thousand dollar shoes. Just go and do somthing els that exercise as well as running.

You know, the origin of the marathon comes from the story how a herald named Phidippides ran the 26 miles from Marathon to Athens to announce the Greek victory and died on the spot - I know it\'s a factual problem, so I\'m guessing that Jim Fixx is one of every 50,000 or so runners who dies when running way too much. Running is no more dangerous than any other endurance sport - if you do more than you handle, you can get hurt.

edit - Frenchkid probably has more knowledge of metabolism and heart function, so i\'m not gonna argue. Swimming is a lower impact exercise, so that\'s a good replacement for running.
