Umm no. As in, that\'s not what they\'re saying. Science *demands* enquiry - it is founded on people trying to shoot down the established theories and replace them with something that fits the observed evidence better. If a new theory doesn\'t do this, it should be thrown out or modified. If a theory has been around a long time without it having been shown to be false or without something better being proposed, then it\'s held on to, but it\'s still a theory and could still be replaced at a future point as knowledge about the topic expands. Good science means always having to question what you know and gaining as much evidence as you can before you propose something new. If you don\'t like scientific method, fine, what would you do instead?Originally posted by Shawn R. L.
Seems that open minded is defined by agreeing with scientific conclusions. Sad to limit the openness so severely.......or am I being intolerant?
on the contrary, if we were so open as to assume how things work without questioning how and why, we would still be living in caves and worshiping the sunOriginally posted by Shawn R. L.

I think the whole point of the video was that for a lot of people, being open-minded means agreeing with THEM about whatever they think is out there. Scientists generally understand that personal faith is not really within our realm, but we are sick of being told we\'re \"closed-minded\" simply because we ask questions and ask for proof when someone makes an assertion about the material world, especially if that assertion involves something which seemingly goes against well-established principles of physics, chemistry etc.Originally posted by Shawn R.
