Argh Lead Rot

Just come across a box of figures in the garage that I had put aside for future de-painting and sorting out and some of the stuff is the old GWpre-slotta base and some of the early slotta base 84 to 88 most of it is suffering quite badly with lead rot and others might be able to be rescued.

Does anybody know of any way of successfully rescuing figures from lead rot or is it a case of throw the lot?
Will a soft brass/steel wire brush be any good for the lightly affected ones?
I have heard that a soak in soapy water and a scrub with a tooth brush might work anybody tried this method and had any success?
Will putting them in oil and giving them a scrub help to clean them of lead rot after all builders wipe oil on lead of new houses? (yes I know they will neaed a good soapy scrub afterwards before priming).

To give you an idea of what I have/might loose there is the first Chaos Santa, a Dragon Turtle about 30 human figures of clerics fighters etc and a couple of good wizards as well as a 3 part bird thing that has four human feet and three heads.

I accept that some maybe too far gone to rescue but any help in getting the others cleaned up would be gratefully appreciated.

I would just give them a good soapy scrub, fill any holes with green and then prime them. the paint should stop further oxidation, since no air can get to the metal...

Thanks Tammy I shall give this a go most of them have only lost weapons so far good job I have a load of spare swords etc in my bits box for weapon swaps

Thanks I\'ve now read the articles and know the short time solutions but as the navy article says i\'m stuffed in a couple of years tome

Guess over the next few months I have one hell of a lot of priming to dolol
